We’ve seen previous NAK concept phones, created by designer
Antoine Brieux, but this time he has outdone himself. The line between MID, tablet and smartphone is blurred by the new NAK HD handset, pictured below and packed with the best of specs. The 11mm thick machine relies on a dual core 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU and uses two displays.

The front screen is a 4.5 inch AMOLED multitouch capacitive display, while the internal display measures 4.8 inches in diagonal and it’s a LED non-touchscreen unit with a 16:9 ratio. NAK HD also features 1GB RAM, 1GB ROM, 16GB internal memory, a microSD card slot, an 8 megapixel camera with dual LED flash, a front videocall camera and HDMI out.
The keyboard uses 52 keys, plus trackball and as far as connectivity is concerned, the concept supports WiFi, 3G, 4G and Bluetooth. A 1800 mAh battery powers this monster up. In my mind three companies would make such a great device: Motorola, HTC or Dell. Which one would do a better job and what OS would you choose for NAK HD: Windows Phone 7 or Android 2.2?

[Thanks Antoine Brieux]

Designer Benjamin Lotte created the LG Exo concept phone, a handset based on an interesting idea: a skeletal system that protects the parts inside the device. Yes, the LG Exo is a resilient piece of gadgetry with a high strength polymer exosketelon that protects its inner parts and supports the external rubber skin.

Exo comes with a curved body, enhanced ergonomics and great strength. It also incorporates a flexible OLED display, making the phone even more resilient to shocks and interactions. Overall, this LG handset is able to withstand any kind of damage, thanks to its external shell, always kept in pristine conditions.
Underneath the rock-hard case, you’ll find a 1.5 GHz Snapdragon CPU and the device’s specs list also includes a 5 megapixel wide angle camera, a high power Lithium Ion battery and a 3.8 inch OLED display. Viable or not?

Smartphones with 2GHz CPUs seem to be the new trend, as we’ve seen a
Motorola concept with such a processing power just days ago and now a Samsung unit promises to deliver the same. We’ve stumbled upon the following render of the Samsung i9200 Galaxy S2, a design that would fit such a powerful device.

Supposed to be launched in 2011, the unit packs a 4.3 inch Super AMOLED 2 display, 1GB RAM, 4GB ROM, an 8 megapixel camera with full HD video recording, 32GB of internal memory, Bluetooth 3.0, accelerometer, WiFi b/g/n and A-GPS. Android 3.0 is the OS of choice for the Galaxy S2. Is this a viable smartphone of the year 2011?

Wearable phones are nothing new, but when this sort of design meets eco-friendliness, something interesting is bound to be created. Mexican designer Veronica Eugenia Rodriguez Ortiz created the Yuxa
wearable cellphone concept, that can be worn around the user’s wrist, just like a bracelet or a watch.

The device vibrates to let you know about calls, it supports Bluetooth and it’s made from ecological materials, like plant fibers and biodegradable plastic. This is an eco-friendly phone featuring an OLED display and rechargeable battery, plus an innovative means of communications: sending vibrations to other users.
This is almost like poking someone on Facebook, only it’s done in real life…

We knew that Motorola was readying a dual core smartphone, but what about a design to show off the device? DaQuan Freeman mailed us some pretty interesting sketches, showing a Motorola Android concept phone, with great specifications, available after the break.

This device integrates an AMOLED 4.78 inch capacitive touchscreen display with multitouch, an 8 megapixel camera with Dual LED flash and 720p HD video capture at 30 fps and NVIDIA’s Tegra 250 CPU. Powering the unit is a Dual-Core ARM A9 processor and we learn that the handset’s display is scratch-resistant, plus there’s a front facing camera and stereo speakers incorporated.
Will Motorola’s Droid 3 look anything like this?

Jedibeeftrix published an interesting post on this blog, detailing the future of Nokia devices, focused on the MeeGo platform. He also mentioned a wishlist for the features to appear on this ideal smartphone/MID/tablet. So, what do you want on it? Post a comment below and fill the wishlist!

As far as the blogger mentions, we learn that the handset should sport a 4 inch AMOLED WVGA display, a capacitive unit with multitouch support, a dual core ARM Cortex A8 CPU and a virtual keyboard.
A camera like the one on Nokia N8 should also be on board, plus a Xenon flash and enough memory and connectivity for the most picky users.

We continue to show you the results of the LG Design the Future Competition and today we’ve found the LG Flutter concept smartphone. This device received the first-ever Prop Mater’s Choice Award, given to Dua Xiong for the great design shown below.

The LG Flutter concept phone will have the unique opportunity of being featured in a future blockbuster film. This smartphone opens up like a fan, as shown in the image above and reveals a flexible OLED touchscreen display that scrolls radially.
Since this is a device that tends to look like a weapon, we’ll speculate that it’ll be featured in a superhero movie… or maybe a sci-fi production?

eBooks and e-readers aren’t dead yet, in spite of the iPad’s success, so there’s room for new products. One of them could be the flexible e-reader concept, shown below and created by Dragan Trencevski. Dubbed the eRoll, this device reminds us of a very sexy
PSP concept we’ve seen a while back.

eRoll uses a rollable flexible screen and it can be turned from an average e-reader to a baton. Gone are the rigid displays and fragile devices we had to carry around in order to read while commuting.
Let’s just hope that this baton comes with connectivity options and maybe Internet connectivity, else the iPad is still a better alternative.
