Designer Eno Setiawan, a name you’ve heard linked to this concept phone shows the world his new design: the Hanger Skype phone. The device is made out of aluminium, polycarbonate and polyurethane and has a pretty simple functioning mechanism. You pick it up, you use it and then you hang it up and end the call.

This handset can still be used while it’s connected to your PC, via the Bluetooth-supporting dock. The specs list is a mystery for the Hanger Skype Phone, aside from a battery indicator and the few buttons that any electronic device should have.

I have to admit that at first glance, the Ching Phone didn’t impress me… Quite on the contrary, it almost made me ignore it, but after finding out what it does and what it symbolises, things changed. The handset was part of a design competition in Hong Kong and it belongs to designer Jason. Don’t mistake this for a cellphone, as it’s an indoor wireless phone, which we’ll look into after the break.

Its design is all about ergonomics, fitting the user’s face and using “ancient Chinese window grilles” as its main theme. What impressed me the most is the fact that this design keeps the phone cool and makes it easier to hold against the user’s face for a long time. How many times have you had sweaty palms or an aching ear, after chatting on the indoor phone for hours?
The Ching concept phone includes a hands-free speaker, a touch control button and uses a hook in order to charge or hang up on the wall.

Can’t seem to remember the next important global sporting event, unless you’re into European soccer, UEFA and CHL… Well, mobile TV can still prove useful for soaps and concerts, maybe news and comedy shows, so you’ll fall in love with the Graphite DVB-H Mobile Phone concept below. It was designed by Jonathan Findlay and it’s a 4-way slider that uses Symbian S60 UI.

Graphite Mobile comes with a 2.5 megapixel camera with autofocus and Xenon flash, 3 dedicated camera shutter/stereo speakers, 4 USB ports and 5 dedicated 3.5mm audio ports. Notice the superb 3.6″ AMOLED display in the image above, once again involving The Dark Knight in the process of making a handset famous.
This concept phone also includes a 0.6 MP front video camera, an on/off translucent button, an active mechanical keypad and a spring loaded cover that protects the battery, memory card and SIM card.

E-Ink is the new trend when it comes to concept devices, case proved by Anthony Reed who designed the following phone. If you miss colours, just know this: full color E-ink has recently been demonstrated, so we’ll surely see handsets based on this technology soon enough.
The main draw of this E-Ink concept phone is surely the design and unusual color, as for the specs, they’re nowhere to be found.

We’re speechless… truly speechless! There we were, imagining that Nokia would surprise us with another touchscreen device, or Apple would stun the world with iPhone 3 and here comes the Pomegranate concept phone, wiping out all competition. This brilliant device can even make coffee, it can be used as a razor and a projector.

A simple look at the concept phone’s website can be enlightening and it will change the way you think about mobile phones. Basically, the Pomegranate device features MP3 playback, GPS navigation, a global voice translator, a camera, video player, movie projector, a razor, a harmonica and of course, the coffee brewer you can see in action below.

Nothing more to say here than “Good job!” for Andreas Poser, the designer of the following concept phones. While some of them may look like walkie talkies or really tough devices that can take a wallop, these designs might just make it into the portofolio of a big company. I would be betting Sagem if they weren’t “bye, bye” or maybe Alcatel.

Dual SIM phones are all the rage now and even handsets that can hold 3 SIM cards have turned up, but 4 sims is something extremely rare, if not a never tried before idea. Inspired by fire, the Magma phone was designed by Amit Vagyani and it features a keypad and touchscreen display.

Among its specs there’s up to 40GB extendable memory support, a 5 megapixel camera with 8x optical zoom, Bluetooth, infrared, Wi-Fi, twin CDMA and GSM. Its battery lasts 12 hours in active talk mode and this Magma handset measures 100 x 49 x 16 mm, weighing 60 grams. Who’s going to make a 5 SIM device?

We’re watching World Cup 2010 quallies these days and if we’re on the go, we need a decent device to display those soccer matches. The BRIX, designed by Seok won Hong is the perfect concept phone to show sport events, but it won’t do this on its own. Several BRIX phones can create an even bigger display, with a 1:2 aspect ratio, in order to enhance your video experience.

A device for families and friends, BRIX can easily become your favourite gadget, displaying video games and movies anywhere and at any time. I sure hope it comes with decent audio specs and TV out, plus mobile TV support.
Will 9 BRIX phones make a tablet and if so, can it be used as one?

If I were to name a branding for this concept device, it would surely be HTC, although Samsung is also capable of building such a handset. Created by Aleix Ingles Elias, this concept multimedia phone features a transparent shell body and its navigator key is also a hole, used as a viewfinder.
This last aspect somehow reminds me of a certain LG design, but this handset’s still a good piece of hardware.

DoCoMo isn’t finished showing off its innovations at CEATEC 2008 and the event goes on. After seeing its neat “phone that splits” concept developed with Fujitsu, it’s time to witness the birth of a new version of 3G connectivity, the 3GLTE. Plus, there are more concept phones to check out, some with projectors, as you can see in the pics below.

3GLTE is way faster than 3G, going up to 250Mbps (download) and 50 Mbps (upload). DoCoMo put this connectivity option to the test, by connecting two PlayStation consoles with its aid.
No lag folks! What about 4G? Also, we find out that 3GLTE will be coming in 2010, so that’s good news for the rest of the world… in 2011 or so. The following pics show more DoCoMo concept phones, some with superior multimedia features, that would make a PMP jealous.
