LG Sphere, a Phone Based on 3D Interaction/ 3D Touch Interface

Loading ... Loading ... First of all: Happy new year! And now let’s move on to the very first cellphone design of 2010, albeit we suspect it’s a 2009 project: LG Sphere. This LG concept phone is the result of the work of the Domus Academy, collaborating with LG Electronics and Gino Finizio Design Management. Their purpose was to develop a phone that’s both high tech, touch-based and relying on 3D interaction.

LG Sphere, a Phone Based on 3D Interaction/ 3D Touch Interface

LG Sphere measures 100 mm in height, 65 mm in width, it uses a 3D touch interface and it incorporates 3 side hardware buttons for immediate interaction. There’s also an on screen keyboard involved in this design and a 3D navigation system that would make any GPS jealous. There’s a very neat video after the break, if you’re curious regarding the handset’s features.

Sphere is the creation of Italian designer Federico Weber and it integrates GPS and Bluetooth, that help recognize the position of the user, so the phone can adapt to surrounding area and mood. Thus, it can change color and settings, depending on the place where you use it. The LG phone uses an interface shaped like a half-sphere and a convex display, for better 3D effects.

LG Helix Cellphone is Also a Slap Bracelet

Loading ... Loading ... Being fancy is more important to some than being technologically up to date and this trend was also followed by designer Rob Luna, who created the LG Helix concept phone. This device can also be used as a slap bracelet and worn on the owner’s wrist. There’s also an LED section up front, showing you the needed updates.

The user can change the handset’s functions by shifting LED strips and you should know that LG Helix incorporates flexible circuits and touchscreen.

This device is made of black stainless steel and rubber elastic and it can also be attached to the belt, via a magnetic charger that uses the kinetic energy generated by the user to juice the cellphone.

LG Burst Projector Phone Comes With Media Editing, Video Conferencing

Monday, September 28th, 2009

1 Star2 Stars3 Stars4 Stars5 Stars (6 votes, average: 4.33 out of 5)

Loading ... Loading ... LG Burst is a concept phone that incorporates a projector and comes with all the important features of touch phones. This handset can project images on flat surfaces, thanks to its side-mounted projectors and the needed software, that deforms the touch space display.

LG Burst Projector Phone Comes With Media Editing, Video Conferencing

The LG concept phone’s touchscreen is a standard unit, but you’ll also be able to operate it by using the virtual projected screen space. Burst is able to project HD interactive full colour touch areas, that display menus, apps and everything you need. Also, the device relies on a fresh interface that uses sound and motions sensors to detect the user’s actions.

LG Burst also supports video conferencing, through a technology that helps the deaf and hearing impaired users communicate better. Games are also on board, as well as document and media editing , web browsing on the virtual screen, music playback and more. If Samsung’s able to manufacture a projector phone, why wouldn’t LG also create a cool model like this?

LG Traveler Concept Phone, a Winner in My Book

Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

1 Star2 Stars3 Stars4 Stars5 Stars (2 votes, average: 5.00 out of 5)

Loading ... Loading ... We’re not sure if the LG Traveler concept phone took part in the LG Design the Future Competition, or if it won, but it sure is a winner in my book. Created by Andrew Zheng, the handset is a thin slider with a touchscreen on board and a physical button keypad.

LG Traveler Concept Phone, a Winner in My Book

The unusual shape of the LG Traveler phone was created for better grip and this aspect gets enhanced also thanks to rubbers grips on the side. What’s neat is that the concept integrates a portable USB flash drive, for better connectivity and easier handling of content and transferring from PC to phone and viceversa.

Traveler comes with a Bluetooth Instant Media Share feature, that allows the users with the same model to quickly exchange info and there’s even a “ready to go” folder, always about to be sent to the person you connect to via Bluetooth. Picture cropping is also supported on the device, thanks to the touchscreen technology and there’s even a GPS hotspot application included.

LG Traveler Concept Phone, a Winner in My Book

The GPS hotspot app allows one to save and pinpoint his or her favorite places, from a picnic spot, to the place you parked your car or the area you lost your dog. LG Traveler includes a simple top LED caller display, making the visualisation of the caller or time easier, when the phone is in your pocket.

At the back of the handset there’s a 5 megapixel camera with flash and I really have to say that I’m impressed with this concept, perhaps even more than this other LG phone design. What do you say?

LG Oyster, a Bracelet-Like Mobile Phone Design

Sunday, July 26th, 2009

1 Star2 Stars3 Stars4 Stars5 Stars (1 votes, average: 5.00 out of 5)

Loading ... Loading ... Kenny Lohr II created the LG Oyster Mobile, a concept phone that’s both elegant and innovative, probably fitting the thin wrists of young ladies. The device draws its inspiration from oysters and it comes with a plastic casing with translucent areas, that let the LED lights shine through.

The phone uses the thin film rechargeable battery technology, an OLED screen and also supports Internet connectivity, plus social networking. Too bad that we can’t see more of the LG concept phone’s inside, but the outside is also not to be neglected.

LG Cyon Whiskey Phone Concept, Chameleon Full Touchscreen Device

Thursday, March 5th, 2009

1 Star2 Stars3 Stars4 Stars5 Stars (9 votes, average: 4.33 out of 5)

Loading ... Loading ... We’ve seen phones inspired by perfumes, flowers and even animals, but this is the first time I’ve seen a whiskey-themed device. Juyoung Kim designed the LG Cyon Whiskey concept phone, that changes its color to a “shade of whiskey” showing the distance of the person calling you.

This handset packs a full touchscreen display, an 8 megapixel camera and uses its ability to change color like a chameleon, in order to show the distance between people chatting on the phone.

If you’re talking to someone that calls from the same town, the phone will display a “mild whiskey” color, but if you’re getting a call from thousands of miles away, LG Cyon Whiskey will change its color drastically, to a darker shade.

LG KM900 Mockup Gets Sold?

Sunday, January 25th, 2009

1 Star2 Stars3 Stars4 Stars5 Stars (5 votes, average: 2.40 out of 5)

Loading ... Loading ... Welcome to our world, Unwired View folks! Every now and then, one of our readers asks us if a certain concept phone is for sale and the answer is obviously “NOT”. Now, Unwired View have found out that LG is readying a pretty hot music phone, the KM900 and did a mockup of the device, which you can check out below.

No problem so far, right? Things got strange, when a British retailer started “selling” the phone, using Unwired View’s mockup…

LG KM900 Mockup Gets Sold?

Beepy.co.uk is the retailer in question, taking pre-orders of the KM900, that seems to work on T-Mobile UK. The handset is available for 85 pounds and it packs 3G, WiFi, a 240 x 400 pixels touchscreen, Bluetooth and a 3.5mm headset jack.

Kind of strange to sell something that doesn’t even exist yet, isn’t it?

LG Japan’s Mobile Design Contest Shows Hot Concepts

Sunday, November 9th, 2008

1 Star2 Stars3 Stars4 Stars5 Stars (3 votes, average: 5.00 out of 5)

Loading ... Loading ... Tokyo Designers Week hosted a couple of neat phone mockups this weekend, as the winners of the Mobile Design Contest organized by LG Japan decided to show the world physical versions of their ideas. The “Planet Phone” (below) won the competition and you can admire the concept devie below, a circular clamshell device with many LEDs incorporated in its top part.

LG Japans Mobile Design Contest Shows Hot Concepts

Each of the small lights you see on the Planet Phone is a friend and as you contact him/her more often, the corresponding light stays closer to the centre of the screen. The rarer you chat with someone, the closer he’ll get to the edge of the display.

The LG Temperature concept phone (below) has a back made out of tiles, each displaying the name of a contact. You can exchange tiles with your close ones and see them glitter in the color of your friend’s location heat level.

LG Japans Mobile Design Contest Shows Hot Concepts

Now how cool is that? Imagine going to a sunny beach and having your amigo call you because his tile glittered smoking red. Or being in Aspen and skiing, while you’re sweaty friend’s tile from California glitters blue.

The next LG concept is the “Ring” (below), a candybar handset with a hole in its lower part. This can be used a rotary dial or the phone’s camera viewfinder. The entire front side of the device is its display.

LG “fbt” comes with a Braille keypad and allows users to send and receive messages, as its back is a Braille display and keypad at the same time. Next is the “Tap” concept (below), a device that looks like a huge light switch and really works like one, as you can switch it off and simply chill out.

Keep in mind that these handsets are only mockups, so you won’t see them in stores too soon.
