While the PSP Phone is getting closer and closer to becoming a real device and not only a rumour, we’re barely introduced to concepts of similar Xbox-based contraptions. The latest is an Xbox 360-Zune hybrid designed by the concept artists of T3.

The specs list is very limited for this concept, but it does impress us with 64GB of flash storage and all the phone functions one could dream of. This is a rather thin device, but I guess that it’s the Zune talking here and its influence. Add a TV-out and decent battery to this portable Xbox 360 and I’ll be its fan. You can find more pics of the device here.

Ok, this is not a phone, but it’s still a portable device worth mentioning among the best designs we’ve seen. John Frohne is the designer of the Xbox 360 XTYPE controller that offers Bluetooth/USB support and allows you to search the web and control the DVD player on your Xbox console.

A person who’s read the last year’s mobile industry news should know by now that portable consoles will become extinct in the next 5 to 10 years, being replaced by phones with the same features, if not better. However, while they’re here, those still make gamers go crazy.

Just look at the Microsoft Xune concept below, a combination between Zune, iPod, Xbox and Sony Mylo.

Basically we’re dealing with the Xbox 360 controller with a touch of Mylo and iPod Nano. The console also features shoulder buttons, a touchwheel with a center button (a la Xbox 360), a sliding keyboard and 4:3 ratio aspect ratio screen. The keyboard will be used for web surfing, email and chat, while the device is compatible with the Xbox 360 and Windows Media Center.

It seems that the designer of this concept console also thinks about a widescreen version. However, I’m already thinking about Skype on this beauty, some memory card support plus touchscreen and accelerometer. Here’s a video collection of all Xbox portable concepts so far:

Microsoft Lucid Touch Concept, the Back Side of Multi Touch

While CeBIT 2008 is in full bloom in Germany, Microsoft’s got an internal event of its own, the TechFest fair, an excellent opportunity for showing off new technologies and concepts like the Microsoft Lucid Touch. This prototype device can be controlled with the aid of the user’s fingers, which will “multi-touch” (is this a new verb?) the device from behind.

As you control this device, you’ll be able to still see your fingers, due to the pseudo-transparency technology. You’re not using a semitransparent handset, instead you’ll be seeing a image of your hands which creates such an illusion. Keep in mind that Lucid Touch supports multi-touch input, so you’ll be using all your fingers to play some fancy RTS on your tablet.

This great concept comes as a response to the people frustrated by small screens and thick fingers, getting in the way of the devices’ user friendliness.
