Modai Modular Phone concept Means That Your Phone Never Ages Loading ... Designer Julius Tarng brings back to our attention a niche of handsets that seemed forgotten: the modular phones. Meet the Modai, a modular handset that aims at turning your smartphone into your best friend. This companion device is inspired by human behavious and designed to keep you attached to it both physically and emotionally.

Modai Modular Phone concept Means That Your Phone Never Ages

Modai has a social side called Fundai and work side called Prodai, both being paradigms that help the user fit both work and play in their schedule. These paradigms sort incoming content into special screens and stay true to their purpose, so it’s all about work, scheduling, meetings and projects in Prodai and all about Facebook, weather, birthdays, dates and texting with Fundai. Modai also has a special avatar that represents your mood and it can also recommend you stuff to do when you’re in a certain area of the town.

For example, it may suggest you a bus schedule, lunch specials, nearby friends on the map and more. The Modai phone keeps being your friend and greets you in the morning, while keeping silent at night and only showing you the weather widget of special basic UI traits, like the sleep cycle and special alarm. The handset is also able to adapt, so if it senses you overslept, it will create a faster route to work using its GPS. Of course, the modular side is also present here, courtesy of upgradable hardware, including batteries, camera, RAM, CPU and more, all of them inserted into a special Peelstand case with muscle wire, that moves on its own. Catchy, right?

BlackBerry Shadow Concept Runs WebOS on Top of Dual Core ARM15 CPU

BlackBerry Shadow Concept Runs WebOS on Top of Dual Core ARM15 CPU Loading ... We all know that Research in Motion and its BlackBerry models are in deep, deep trouble, so salvation could come from either getting bought by Microsoft or buying a dying platform such as webOS. The latter was imagined by Bob Freking, who envisions a BlackBerry concept phone called Shadow, that runs HP/Palm’s webOS platform.

BlackBerry Shadow Concept Runs WebOS on Top of Dual Core ARM15 CPU

This model will still include functions from BB OS, BBM included here. BlackBerry Shadow runs on top of an ARM15 dual core processor at 1 GHz and it features an 8 megapixel camera with dual LED Flash. The designer mentions that this handset incorporates glow lines n the back that can read the user’s thoughts, so how cool is that? I guess this is more of a mood sensing feature than actual mind reading… Social networking is also included on the BlackBerry Shadow, as well as a 5 megapixel front camera with flash for video chat.

Are we ready for a thought reading BlackBerry with strong social networking features? I’ll let you decided… Also, notice that the phone comes with an edge to edge display that’s probably around 4 to 4.5 inches in diagonal…

Crescent Sentinel Phone Runs Windows Phone Mango, Does Wireless Charging

Crescent Sentinel Phone Runs Windows Phone Mango, Does Wireless Charging Loading ... Jonathan De Jesus is back with a new concept, this time the Crescent Sentinel in a Re-Amped version that switches to an aluminum chassis and wireless charging technology, plus Windows Phone Mango as the OS. The beautiful device with Super AMOLED display can be seen in the following pictures. Here’s the Crescent company Facebook page for more designs.

Crescent Sentinel Phone Runs Windows Phone Mango, Does Wireless Charging

Crescent Sentinel is made entirely of aluminum, supports 1080p video playback and comes with a main 12 megapixel camera and 4MP front cam for videocalls. Inside there’s a dual core Snapdragon S3 processor (1.5GHz), 60GB of storage and supports for loads of WiFi technologies. The latest in WiFi and Bluetooth is available here and Jonathan mentions the inclusion of a Benson app, that’s sort of a Siri rival, but with a more friendly output to the user.

For example, Benson senses the mood of the user and can throw in a joke or comfort you if you are sad. The app senses the tone of the voice and pressure with which you are squeezing the phone to determine your state of mind. Also, I have to mention that this concept smartphone comes with Bose Audio quality, wireless headphones, GPS and it will accept any SIM from any carrier in the world. There’s also a back side screen showing how much battery is left, as you can see in these images. What do you say about this device? Do you dig it? I think it’s a good break from those boring windows Phone designs till now…

Crescent Supernova, the Most Beautiful Android Ice Cream Sandwich Phone Ive Seen Loading ... Jonathan De Jesus is already a regular here, with quite a bunch of concept smartphones shown to us, under the Crescent brand. This time he unveils to us the Crescent Supernova, a splendid Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich phone with a 4.8 inch height and 4.6 inch Super AMOLED HD display. This one is a 1080p screen, so it’s a big evolution even compared to the likes of the Galaxy Nexus.

Crescent Supernova, the Most Beautiful Android Ice Cream Sandwich Phone Ive Seen

The Crescent Supernova comes with an 18 megapixel camera, a 1GHz Snapdragon S3 processor (dual core) and 600 MB of memory. There’s also 100GB of internal storage, the latest in Bluetooth technology and everything works wirelessly, including charging, headphones and transfer/syncing (done via WiFi). There’s an extra LCD display at the back, as shown below and this area is used to display battery power, switch camera view when taking pics and also show some status details of the handset’s functioning.

This seems to be a very thin and rectangular device, an unusual form factor for today’s wide smartphones. I see it as an evolved, elegant Ice Cream Sandwich device of the year 2012 and maybe something that Motorola, HTC or Samsung would make. For now the work belongs to Jonathan De Jesus, who did a wonderful job! The only thing I must mention is that I think the Power button is a bit too close to the inferior edge of the handset. Otherwise, the design is pefect! What do you think?

Nexus Black Concept Relies on Nvidia Wayne Processing, Coming in 2012

Nexus Black Concept Relies on Nvidia Wayne Processing, Coming in 2012 Loading ... If the Galaxy Nexus doesn’t do it for you, then let’s have a look at the fourth Google Nexus phone, in concept phase. Nexus Black is the creation of Deviantart user bharathp666, who did a terrific job with this design. Recently I heard some rumors that the new Nexus would actually be Motorola material and that it would be called the Motorola RAZR Nexus… Could it be real?

Nexus Black Concept Relies on Nvidia Wayne Processing, Coming in 2012

Back to the Nexus Black, this phone relies on the Nvidia Wayne 2GHz quad core processor and features a 1200 x 720 pixel AMOLED display, 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory. There’s also a 12.1 megapixel camera available at the back, with dual LED flash, shutter control, continuous autofocus and 1080p video capture at 30 fps. Image stabilization is pretty much a given and RAW support is also implemented. Upfront of the new Nexus phone of 2012 we find a 3.2 megapixel camera with autofocus.

HDMI support with 1080p is included in this mix, as well as WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, a proximity sensor, NFC, gyrometer and IR remote transciever. I guess that the Nexus Black will run Android 5.0 Jellybean or maybe Android 4.x in an evolved version. The main disappointment on the Galaxy Nexus was the camera and I see that this model did good on repairing that poor feat of the 2011 device. What do you think about this handset?

BlackBerry London Picture Leaks, Shown Running BBX OS Loading ... We have no idea if the picture below shows a prototype or a concept, but this is certainly a RIM device like you haven’t seen before. Also called the BlackBerry London or the Colt, this smartphone runs BBX OS, a follow-up to the BB OS 7 and QNX OS. The Verge published this leak.

BlackBerry London Picture Leaks, Shown Running BBX OS

BlackBerry London comes with a TI OMAL dual core CPU at 1.5GHz, 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal memory, an 8 megapixel camera at the back and a front 2 megapixel camera. The launch of the handset is expected in June 2012 and the design is very much like RIM’s Porsche Design P9981 phone. Sources say that this BlackBerry prototype is thinner than the iPhone 4 and about the same size as the Samsung Galaxy S II.

This BlackBerry smartphone is finally an original design from RIM and its interface doesn’t look bad at all. We’re finally ridden of those annoying and old-school designs, that plagued the Canadian company for the last years. We’ve still to find out details about other specs of the handset, like the display diagonal, but I’m guessing that’s around 4 inches.

Palette Smartphone Concept Provides an Extra Bottom and Top Display for Multitasking Loading ... With all the new operating systems focusing on improving the way they multitasking, how about we check out a concept phone that uses hardware for multitasking, not software. Enter the Palette smartphone, created by designer Kunihiko Nakata.

Palette Smartphone Concept Provides an Extra Bottom and Top Display for Multitasking

This handset has not one, but two sub-displays, one at the bottom and one at the top, showing the tasks that are performed simultaneously on the handset. The upper section seems focused on social networking and email, while the section below handles more average tasks, such as back, Home, refresh, menu and others.

The phone looks pretty bulky and it should be very easy to sit on a flat surface, due to its design. And now I can imagine a smartphone that also has two side sub-displays, but that will be more of an UFO than a handset, honestly. What do you think? Would you buy a  phone with 3 displays?

BlackBerry Torch Redesign Brings 720p Display to the RIM Handsets Loading ... Since Samsung and LG already have 720p display phones and HTC is preparing one of its own, why shouldn’t RIM have one too? This could be a Torch redesign, like the one envisioned by Jonathan De Jesus, who created the following BlackBerry concept:

BlackBerry Torch Redesign Brings 720p Display to the RIM Handsets

This model is supposed to feature a 4.3 inch 720p touchscreen, a 2.5GHz processor, 20GB of internal memory and a polygon shaped button at the bottom. This one lets you navigate around menus, just like on the other BlackBerry phones. All you need to do is move your thumb around its shape and reach any area of the menu you need.

This BlackBerry Torch redesign also sports a 4 megapixel camera at the front, an 8 megapixel camera at the rear, volume buttons at the side and P2T button too. Video conferencing and projector connectivity are also supported. What do you think of this BlackBerry design?

Crescent Moon Mobile Phone Concept Is Everything the Galaxy Nexus & Droid RAZR Should’ve Been

Crescent Moon Mobile Phone Concept Is Everything the Galaxy Nexus & Droid RAZR Shouldve Been Loading ... It’s true that the Droid RAZR is slim, at 7.1mm, but it still looks like a big piece of hardware… while the Galaxy Nexus wouldn’t be that impressive without the OS. Coming to save us from lack of innovation is Jonathan De Jesus  and his company, Crescent. They created the Crescent Moon concept phone and he’s looking for funding for it. Thus, a Facebook Like over here wouldn’t hurt…

Crescent Moon Mobile Phone Concept Is Everything the Galaxy Nexus & Droid RAZR Shouldve Been

Now let’s get to the goods… This is a carbon fiber handset, that also uses plastic in its chassis. Considering the fact that carbon fiber is used, I’m expecting the price of the device to be high. Crescent Moon comes with a 4.5 inch 1080p display, so it’s a big one up from the current 720p handsets, that are only two right now, one made by LG and the other by Samsung.

Crescent Moon Mobile Phone Concept Is Everything the Galaxy Nexus & Droid RAZR Shouldve Been

Crescent Moon relies on a Snapdragon S3 processor, comes with a 12 megapixel camera and great graphical power. Also, this concept phone is all about wireless technology: wireless headphones, wireless docking pad and maybe even wireless charging. On the sides of the device there are dark strips that control the volume and toggle through the menu in case you don’t want to touch the screen. As you can see, the OS of choice here is Android Ice Cream Sandwich.

Solar technology will also be incorporated into this Android 4.0 phone, making it a green smartphone. So, spread the word out and look out for this next Galaxy Nexus challenger.

Flx Phone Design Uses a Detachable Bluetooth unit

Flx Phone Design Uses a Detachable Bluetooth unit Loading ... Wenhing Chu & Michael Toh created the Flx concept phone based on “the principle pf mechatronics”. This involves a minimalist design and a detachable Bluetooth headset, as well as a 4:3 AMOLED touchscreen display. There’s also a menu launcher and gesture panel in the mix.

Flx Phone Design Uses a Detachable Bluetooth unit

Flx works both in landscape and in portrait mode and it come swith Carl Zeiss camera technology, plus a sliding rear panel. Relying on a deep Piano Black and Brushed Metal finish, this classy phone is both high tech and modern, plus very elegant. You can slide down the rear panel and flip it to 90 degrees in order to create a stand for the handset, improving media viewing.

Multimedia experience is the emphasis here, with the FLX transforming between landscape and portrait mode, using an orientation sensor. The device responds to movement by orientating the display according to the situation and the experience of media playback. The stereo earbuds come with a ringer indicator that lights up in red. I’d see HTC creating such a device to be honest…
