This may not be a phone, but it’s surely the next best thing, specially if you’re a music listener and music maker. Designed by Chip Beal, from Oakland, California, Sound is a mix and mash-up device that uses a touchscreen interface allowing you to create and mix music, just like a DJ.

Sound also allows you to send the songs you created to your friends and seems small enough to be carried anywhere by an aspiring artist.

If so many names in a headline got you confused, you should know that designer Gabriel Prero has the teens’ preferences all figured out in his concept design. The Firely Multi-fly is featured on Coroflot and promises to be an alternative for your Sidekick, RAZR,
PSP, iPod and Nintendo DS. It’s a concept phone that targets the youngsters, the so-called “tweens” who change phones every year or so.

Studies have shown that tweens give up their handsets in favour of others every 18 months, so Firely Multi-fly tries to solve this issue. It can even appeal to a child and it’s got parental controls, so it’s a fine alternative to the Heart Phone. This concept is also up for gaming sessions, as it resembles an old-school Game Boy, but puts on an entirely different game.
The list of features doesn’t end here, though, as the handset can use expandable accessories, just like the iPod’s gear and even cartridges for games and other functions. If you thought that the Modu phone was unique with all of its jackets, wait till you see this! Firely Multi-fly comes with a camera cartridge and interchangeable keypad, so it can morph into a console, iPod or cameraphone at any time.

If you look at the phone below long enough, you’ll notice that words etched on its surface are “Pantech Noblesse”. Google the device and you’ll find no trace of it… Why? Because it’s a concept, a fancy luxury one designed by Hyun Sung Lee and seen on Coroflot. Notice the nice use of metals on its surface and I can bet that we’re dealing with silver or maybe stainless steel.

I can’t quite make out the keypad sadly, due to all that glow and I can’t help wondering where the display is. The phone seems to be a slider so placing the keypad on top of the display makes no sense… Till we figure this out, let’s have a look at this nice phone cover below, I bet it’s made out of crocodile skin.

The gaming folks of Kotaku have come up with a neat PSP 2 design contest, which showed us what people think of the next generation of Sony’s portable consoles. A couple of them are interesting to say the least, but my favourite is the very first one you can admire below. It’s got a touchscreen, a 16GB flash drive, a webcam, a PS2 emulator and tons of other features, but still… it’s no
PSP Phone.

Another concept I digged was this “bogus design” below, created by Torokun. This PSP 2 features a touchscreen with a multi touch sensor, an 852 x 480 and 16:9 display to be more precise and a pretty neat sliding mechanism. It may remind some of you of what Nokia was trying to do back in the days with some of its handsets, but this concept goes far beyond and still manages to include that UMD drive we don’t need, plus the useful memory slot.

Check out Kotaku’s site for more PSP 2 designs and you’ll probably see a video of these designs in here tomorrow!

The PINUTS concept phone was designed by Lorenzo Ferraboschi, who published it on
Coroflot and tries to surprise us all with an innovative idea. How about turning our devices into “what we eat”? If you’re a fan of peanuts you must have realized by now that this phone’s somehow related to our primary source of nutrients on a soccer night.

PINUTS is also meant to be a successor of the Kyocera Tamago model, a pretty popular phone in Japan, as the designer states. I’m a popcorn fan myself, got any Popcorn concept phone for me?

Although Valentine’s Day has passed, people are always keen on heart-shaped devices, specially on those designed for children. This is also the case of the Okids Heart concept phone designed by Sung-kyun Nam and posted on
Coroflot. It’s a handset that targets 5 year olds or older kids and it would be nice to see it surfacing under Anycall’s branding.

Of course, this is a cellphone that parents will buy for their children, specially due to its catchy design, as it morphs from its standard pill shape to a heart shape. They stand for love and protection, defining the ideal kids phone.
Did I mention that it features some version of Tetris?

A spider web, to be more precise, as it seems that
Motorola and Spider-man have collided into a pretty neat gadget. This beautiful device was designed by Jonathan Lucas and published on Coroflot, so we’ve yet to hear an announcement from Motorola regarding the SPDR handset.

An interesting feature of this concept phone is the fact that it includes a cool microphone which extends down using a spider web-shaped mechanism. Will we see such a device in Spider-man 4, the movie? I guess it’s Motorola’s call, but I don’t think they’re in the mood for such bold initiatives.

Don’t think of this concept handset as yet another iPhone wannabe and the next best touchscreen device! It may have a neat design, metal accents and the classic camera, but it also comes with a detachable Bluetooth headset, as an original touch.

Designed by Sunman Kwon, this beauty pretty much solves the problem of the cellphone owners who always lose their headsets by incorporating such an accessory into the phone’s mouth piece. Also, you should know that the headset gets charged while it’s attached to the phone, solving any potential power issues.
Just don’t let it slip into your mouth and in case it does, pray that the previous user’s ears were clean…

It’s the trendsetter’s lucky day today, since
RKS Design are at it again, introducing another good-looking concept phone, the Fli. It’s a slim device, that reminds of Motorola’s RAZR, but it packs more power and it’s even branded with Sprint’s logo. Could this be a sign of things to come?

The Fli concept phone features a camera and an MP3 player, nothing unusual so far, but it seems to be featuring a top media player and a hinge cover that you can flick in order to open it and answer a call. Hope the designers from Motorola are checking this out, so maybe they’ll get back on track.

General Assembly designed a couple of concept phones for Microsoft, redefining the nature of handsets that use Windows Mobile operating systems. There aren’t any details about these handset available right now, except for what you can see for yourself.
The devices feature extremely powerful cameras so they’re some sort of cameraphone/smartphone hybrids that we’ll dig’ once we get to touch them. Enough with the chatter and let’s let the pictures speak for themselves:
