Designer
Aaron Martinez created both this great
LG concept phone for the Design the Future Competition and the one pictured below. This new device is the LG Eco Solar Power Cellphone, that charges thanks to incandescent and fluorescent lights, plus direct and indirect sunlight, relying on a photovoltaic cell.

As far as the handset is concerned, it comes with Windows Mobile on board (we don’t know what flavour), a brilliant display with advanced touchscreen technology, LED backlight technology, an LED illuminated magnifier, Microsoft Silverlight browser and a 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution. At the back you’ll find an 8 megapixel camera with support for 1080p video capture.
The magnifier mechanism is pretty interesting and it’s detailed in the picture below, as it includes a 5 inch round lighted unit, with support for 10x magnification and +3.00 diopters. The camera on this LG concept supports 200x digital zoom, progressive, it comes with an image stabilizer (optical) and max shutter speed of 1/2000 sec. This is probably the best LG phone design I’ve seen over the past years… What do you say?

Terrillo Walls shows us his first designs over here and now he’s back, with the CiSi concept phone, running Android 2.1 and featuring a 3.5 inch AMOLED touchscreen display. This handset is eco-friendly and uses a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, WiFi (Sprint 4G) and a 7 megapixel camera.

There’s also an analog pad on board, a pop-up key text and a volume rocker. The touchscreen’s resolution is 800 x 480 pixels and the phone also uses an advanced slide power lock. As far as the design is concerned, the CiSi Phone uses a wooden finish, 4 main keys that are back-lit and a custom interface for Android OS, called Grave UI.
The Android handset also packs a 3.5mm audio jack and a joystick-like analog stick for navigation purposes. A pretty interesting device… with a very thin case, I have to say.

Terrillo Walls is a new name on our site and the designer has recently shown us one of his works, the LG Leaf concept phone. This is an
eco-friendly handset, that packs a front facing camera, a volume rocker and solar panels that power it up.

There’s also a great camera at the back and the entire case of the LG Leaf is made out of reused plastic, in order to keep the device environmentally friendly. We suppose that the handset uses a touchscreen display, considering the design and we really like the reduced thickness of the Leaf phone.

Esato board member Remort1 decided that he didn’t like the Sony Ericsson Aspen
eco-friendly phone, so he made his very own version of the device. You can check it out in the following images and you should know that the real handset was announced in February and it’s coming in Q2 2010.

While the original SE Aspen was more business-like and maybe a bit inspired from the Nokia E Series design, this is a more elegant version, created by Remort1. We’re guessing that there’s a keyboard under the facade of the phone, maybe even a QWERTY one, unless the touchscreen and virtual keypad do the trick.
Also the original TFT resistive display with a 2.4 inch diagonal of the real Aspen might have been switched with a 3.5 inch (or so) capacitive touchscreen. Which version of the Aspen do you like more?

Esato board member Remort1 recently designed a
Sony Ericsson concept called the H1, a smartphone that’s part of the GreenHeart series. This makes the device eco-friendly, but still we’re more impressed by its specs than its ability to protect Mother Earth.

Sony Ericsson H1 comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon QSD8650A CPU, 1152MB RAM, 16GB of internal memory and a 3.9 inch HD display. At the back of the handset you’ll find a 10 megapixel camera, while the UI on board is Sony Ericsson Presence. The memory can be expanded with cards of up to 128GB.
More concepts made by Remort1 can be found on this blog.

Esato board user Remort1 recently published a teaser image for his next work, the first (we think)
Sony Ericsson eco-friendly concept phone, from the GreenHeart series. The image doesn’t tell much, except for the fact that the device will sport a huge display and protect Mother Nature.

What name you give such a device considering that SE’s latest green device is called Aspen?

It’s been a while since we last saw an
eco-friendly concept phone, specially one with the Nokia branding on it. Thankfully, we’ve stumbled upon the work of designer Daizi Zheng, the original device pictured below, an eco-friendly Nokia phone powered by sugary drinks.

Daizi claims that the phone battery, used as a power source is too expensive and harmful for nature, specially in the disposal process. She has an alternative for normal batteries, that is the bio battery, an eco-friendly source of energy that uses carbohydrates (sugar in this case) and enzymes as the catalyst for the process needed to produce energy.

One pack of sugary drink will include enough carbohydrates for your phone to work, also generating water and energy, when the battery dies. Bio batteries have the potential to work three to four times longer with a single charge, compared to the Lithium batteries used today.
The idea is brilliant, but what about the handset’s design? How would you feel, carrying such a flask in your pocket?

We really appreciate original designs, specially when it comes to
concept phones like the one pictured below. The Zeri Phone features a section that looks like the mouth of a Dune worm, but it’s in fact a bunch of thermoeletric generators, producing electricity through the temperature difference.

Basically, when the handset is in your pocket, it’ll detect the temperature difference and turn it into energy. The “worm mouth” of the phone is actually a fabric made out of knitted metal wires.
In case you don’t carry the phone in your pocket, it’ll rely on a piezoelectric system, using hair like generators to produce electricity via the vibration from the air. Interesting concept overall!

Jozef Kocúr created a brand new
XPERIA concept phone, dubbed the X001, that you can see below. Aside from being part of the famous smartphone series, this device is unique because it’s basically made from a solid brick of aluminium and it combines the power of a solar cell with a methanol battery.

This eco-friendly phone has a simple design and its methanol tank is transparent. The backside hosts a large solar panel and the two solutions combined power the device with environmentally friendly energy, so you’ll save Mother Earth, while you chat on your XPERIA phone.

The device you can see below is the Sticker Phone concept, a design created by Liu Hsiang-Ling. This is an
eco-friendly phone that uses a solar panel to gets its needed energy and it’s able to stick to a window glass via suction. This is the best way to get some extra signal and sunlight.

Sticker Phone is made out of polysiloxane (silicone) and it’s a device that’s not impossible to manufacture, specially by a company that’s keen on green technologies, like Samsung, Nokia or Sony Ericsson. The curved design at the back of the handset encourages the suction concept and, as you can see, the solar panel is placed at the back.
At the front there’s a digital ink soft-screen and polysiloxane phone keys. You stick the phone to a window like a normal sucker and tear it off by pulling its antenna.
