Nokia N-Gage 2, Return of the Gaming Phone From Nokia, With a Nintendo Twist This Time

Note: There is a rating embedded within this post, please visit this post to rate it.Nokia’s N-Gage device was a hit when it came out, but it quickly died because of the lack of games. Many people have been expecting a resurrection of the product for a while now, but all we have at the time are concepts, like the N-Gage N-02 design you can see below, created by AMAQUI (ibolzurikato).

We’re dealing here with a gaming phone that runs Windows Phone and has a Nintendo twist to the experience, as shown by its sliding area with gaming controls and secondary touch pad/screen. It’s strange to see Microsoft giving its OS to something that’s not Xbox-based and instead uses Nintendo technology, but stranger things have happened. This new Nokia N-Gage uses a 4.1 inch OLED Gorilla Glass display, supports NES carts (somehow) and it’s compatible with all the famous Nintendo ROMs.

Inside there’s a 1.5GHz Snapdragon processor (in a dual core flavor probably) and we also get a 3D display, in case you’re wondering. Basically, imagine a hybrid between the Nintendo 3DS and a Windows Phone unit.. Would it sell better than the Xperia Play?

Sony Xperia Vita Concept May Finally be a Decent PSP Phone

Note: There is a rating embedded within this post, please visit this post to rate it.Let’s face it: the expectations for the PSP Phone were huge, so the Xperia Play was a bit underwhelming… Thus, we go back to concepts and find the consolation in their arms, with devices such as the Sony Xperia Vita concept below giving us hope. This work belongs to the designer Shaik Imaduddin and it actually has some nice features, that are detailed below.

Xperia Vita is supposed to be the next PlayStation Phone, one that features a 5 inch Reality Display with X-Reality Pro Picture engine and a 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution. Inside the gaming smartphone there’s a quad core Nvidia Tegra 3 processor with quad core graphics and at the back there’s a 16 megapixel camera with Xenon flash and 1080p video recording. The analog sticks on this baby will rise out of the body as you slide the handset up.

Speaking as a guy who didn’t like the Xperia Play, this is certainly a good idea and something that might actually work. Things I didn’t like about the first PSP Phone were the following: too little processing power, lag, too bulky and thick, button feedback wasn’t great, the screen was disappointing, games required touch input when they shouldn’t have, very few proprietary games at launch. Android Gaming Smartphone Provides Both a Touch Experience and Gaming Controls

Note: There is a rating embedded within this post, please visit this post to rate it.It’s been a while since we’ve seen a console concept, so it’s a pleasure for me to give you the Android portable game console with Android on board. This design created by Ndrews comes with a HDMI port, a touchscreen display that’s probably above 4 inches in diagonal and also some gaming controls of the physical kind.

As far as I can see, the gaming controls from the sides can be flipped to the back of the touchscreen, turning it back into a handset. There’s a special area at the back, under the screen/battery zone where the controllers are integrated for a smoother waistline of the device. Thus, we don’t get a bulky phone and we get top notch gaming. I can see some shoulder buttons here, the famous D Pad, some action buttons and of course touch controls.

Not sure what the battery life of this device will be or its processor choice, but I’m hoping Tegra 3 and at least a 3000 mAh unit, if possible, for lots of gaming.

Huawei HX Prototype Looks Like a Gaming Device

Note: There is a rating embedded within this post, please visit this post to rate it.Well, this is something we’ve missed… the Huawei HX prototype phone was spotted at IFA 2010 and it sure seems like a lovely device. The handset comes with a sliding QWERTY keyboard, that relies on an unique mechanism, that makes it swivel and also be used as a kickstand.

This is more of a prototype than a concept, so we might actually see the Huawei HX in stores some day. The only that bothers me is that the handset is very plasticky and the keyboard doesn’t seem resilient at all. Other than that, with the colors on the case, this model is excellent for teens and gamers.

At the booth of the phone the Hx is describe as a media terminal equipped with a modular keypad/gamepad/kickstand. Would you buy it?

Sony Ericsson Wilhelmina is a Quad Core Clamshell PlayStation Phone

Note: There is a rating embedded within this post, please visit this post to rate it.As mind boggling as it seems, there’s a quad core PlayStation phone with clamshell design out there, but worry not, as it’s a mere concept. Created by Esato board member Razec, this stunning device is pictured below and honestly the PS Vita ain’t got zilch on this unit.

Sporting a dual borderless touchscreen, the console phone can adopt a superwidescreen view, when the clamshell is open. The screen is panoramic and the lack of border between displays is a very welcome addition to the specs. The controls are virtual, or so they seem and we can notice the Xperia branding on this beauty.

We already know that in the Japan clamshells are still popular, so this model would probably be a hit, if not for the quad core processor, then for the PlayStation gaming experience it provides in widescreen mode. Would you choose this over PS Vita?

HTC Gamer, a Serious 7 Inch Rival to All Portable Consoles

The gizmo uses a single core Qualcomm Snapdragon CPU at 1,4GHz and a 2 megapixel front camera. At the back you’ll find a 5 megapixel camera with dual LED flash.

HTC Gamer runs Android 3.0 Honeycomb, supports HSPA+ connectivity and has a 6000mAh battery, providing 12 hours of 3D gaming. The specs list of the 7 inch device is completed by 1GB RAM, HDMI, a special charging port and microUSB. Would you buy this instead of a PSP or Nintendo DS?

PS Square, the Smart Mobile Device Ideal for Teens; A New PSP Concept In Town?

Created by Hirotaka Matsui, the PS Square is a conceptual smart mobile device that’s oriented towards members of the public who are 12 to 14 years old.

PS Square supports induction charging, Bluetooth, possibly 3G and it embeds a microSD card slot. A QWERTY keyboard and a large (probably OLED) screen are incorporated and the device can connect to the PC and TV with ease, via wireless.

The same concept portable device supports social networking, gaming (as shown by the directional pad) and even school work, if you have time for that. Action keys are present as well and an eReader should be on board, too. It’s hard for me to see teenagers doing homework on this device, since I personally would be tempted to socialize and play games on it, but it’s an incredibly cool gadget, to be honest.

Xperia Play Duo, Follow-up to the PSP Phone

This device was designed by Esato board member pavlov’s dog and can be seen in the image below. The Xperia Play 2 (or Play Duo) keeps the sliding design, the portion above that reminds us of the Xperia X10 and the gaming controls.

There’s a quad core A9 CPU inside this newcomer, that’s only a concept right now and the screen is 4.5 inch in diagonal (720p OLED). Expect quite a number of years to pass before you see the next PSP Phone. Just remember how many it took to get here…

Consolor HD2, Much Better Than the PSP Phone

Note: There is a rating embedded within this post, please visit this post to rate it.If I were to choose between the PSP Phone and this gadget, the Consolor HD2 would win the battle, hands down. Created by Joseph Dumary, this concept console features an AMOLED HD screen, displaying Full HD images with an unique level of brilliance. This is the follow-up to the Consolor HD1 design, that received many votes on this website.

Consolor HD2 is able to display local television channels, it performs free calls with other similar consoles and exchanges files. Also, the gadget supports multitasking, photo and video editing and YouTube video publishing. Of course, social networking is also on board and there’s a cartridge system included, too, just like on the good old GameBoy.

However, this cartridge contains a high speed chip, that eliminates loading times. Consolor HD2 comes with two HD cameras, one upfront and one at the rear. Video chat and HD pics are supported, as well as facial recognition. Multiplayer is another feature of this console, paired with a Bluetooth headset, that will keep you in touch with other players.

Joseph Dumary informs us that the device uses the “DP Connect Technology”, that connects it to a TV, in order to watch photos, videos and more. The connection is done without cables, at a maximum distance of 5.5 meters. The console is able to play content on external 2TB hard drives as well and it stores files on the external “HDD WiFi”. I’d choose this console over the PSP Phone any day. How about you?

Note: There is a rating embedded within this post, please visit this post to rate it.We’ve shown you a ton of PSP Phone concepts, actually our first post on this site was about such a device and now finally there’s a real handset to look at. Uncovered by Engadget, this PlayStation Phone prototype is actually nifty looking and pretty much everything we predicted it would be: a hybrid between the XPERIA X10 and the PSP Go!.

Apparently, it’ll run Android 3.0 (Gingerbread) and feature a 1GHz Qualcomm MSM8655 CPU, 512MB RAM, 1GB ROM, a microSD card slot, Bluetooth, WiFi and a display with a diagonal that fits in the 3.7 – 4.1 inch range. Notice that between the directional pad and the action buttons there’s a multitouch touchpad, with yet unknown use.

Also, the L and R shoulder buttons are there, on the side of the handset. No release date was mentioned yet, but early 2011 is a safe bet. Once again, these are the very first REAL shots of the PSP Phone… Are you charmed or disappointed?
