LG Eco Solar Power Cellphone Uses a Photovoltaic Cell, Eco Friendly Technologies Loading ... Designer Aaron Martinez created both this great LG concept phone for the Design the Future Competition and the one pictured below. This new device is the LG Eco Solar Power Cellphone, that charges thanks to incandescent and fluorescent lights, plus direct and indirect sunlight, relying on a photovoltaic cell.

LG Eco Solar Power Cellphone Uses a Photovoltaic Cell, Eco Friendly Technologies

As far as the handset is concerned, it comes with Windows Mobile on board (we don’t know what flavour), a brilliant display with advanced touchscreen technology, LED backlight technology, an LED illuminated magnifier, Microsoft Silverlight browser and a 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution. At the back you’ll find an 8 megapixel camera with support for 1080p video capture.

The magnifier mechanism is pretty interesting and it’s detailed in the picture below, as it includes a 5 inch round lighted unit, with support for 10x magnification and +3.00 diopters. The camera on this LG concept supports 200x digital zoom, progressive, it comes with an image stabilizer (optical) and max shutter speed of 1/2000 sec. This is probably the best LG phone design I’ve seen over the past years… What do you say?

Iron Man 2 Technology Includes LG Transparent Smartphone (Video) Loading ... Iron Man 2 has just made its official debut in US theatres this weekend and every tech freak out there must be pleased with the gadgets shown in the movie. Among them there’s a futuristic LG transparent smartphone that gets pictured below, plus a couple of other device that get detailed in the video at the end of the article.

Iron Man 2 Technology Includes LG Transparent Smartphone (Video)

Kudos to the folks who created this great concept and we have to say we really loved the revolutionary interface shown on Tony Stark’s Microsoft Surface-like coffee table. The virtual Lab and the Iron Man suitcase were probably the coolest technologies we’ve seen in a superhero flick in a long time.

Too bad that the movie is not as good as the first one… Here’s a bit of extra UI action and correction added by the graphic designers working on the film, to make the gadgets look real:

LG HF3 Phone Design Incorporates New Voice Recognition Technology Loading ... If you’ve been missing LG concept phones, we’ve got some designs for you, courtesy of the folks who took part in the “Design the Future Competition”. This time we’re dealing with the LG HF3 phone, designed by Aaron Martinez and relying on a new voice recognition technology.

LG HF3 Phone Design Incorporates New Voice Recognition Technology

The device pictured above is able to respond to the user’s voice commands, allowing him to access the web, email, contacts, calendar, multimedia features and even start apps. There’s no need to pre-record commands or names, thanks to an advanced Voice Recognition Technology, that identifies all commands.

Speak-to-text is also supported, so we guess there’s no more need for keys (virtual or real) on this device. You mustn’t compare this feature with Google Voice or Vlingo, since it’s different, it doesn’t involve an extra price or a third party app. Moving on to the specs, LG HF3 appears to incorporate a huge touchscreen display, a Microsoft Silverlight web browser, Windows Mobile and Bluetooth.

The features of this concept phone are amazing, specially as far as the performance is concerned. The screen uses LED backlight technology, a TFT active matrix, supports a 1920 x 1080 resolution, 1080p display format, 120Hz refresh rate and 4 ms response time. Also, the handset can use up to 200GB of memory, thanks to an 80GB SIM card and an 128GB SD card.

LG HF3′s battery is a Li-ion unit, that takes only 20 minutes to charge, while the device also provides 70 Mbps transfer rate. Incredible? Yes! Now we wait your input on the phone. Don’t forget to have a look at Aaron Martinez’s portofolio, over here.

LG Glide Phone Design Incorporates a Projector, OLED 3D Display Loading ... We’ve seen concept phones with projectors before, but how about handsets with incorporated 3D screens? One such device is the LG Glide phone, created by Sothearit Kim and featuring a 10 megapixel camera, with support for video recording and flash, among others.

LG Glide also packs a 3D OLED touchscreen display, a solar charging cell, placed underneath the screen, personal voice recognition identification and an original sliding QWERTY keyboard. This design reminds us of an older portable console of some sort, but it also looks a bit like modern fixed phones.

LG Leaf Eco Friendly Phone is Made out of Reused Plastic Loading ... Terrillo Walls is a new name on our site and the designer has recently shown us one of his works, the LG Leaf concept phone. This is an eco-friendly handset, that packs a front facing camera, a volume rocker and solar panels that power it up.

There’s also a great camera at the back and the entire case of the LG Leaf is made out of reused plastic, in order to keep the device environmentally friendly. We suppose that the handset uses a touchscreen display, considering the design and we really like the reduced thickness of the Leaf phone.

LG Announces Phone Design Competition, in Partnership With CrowdSPRING Loading ... LG Mobile Phones has just announced the third annual “Design the Future” competition, in partnership with CrowdSPRING (online marketplace for creative services) and Autodesk (leader in 2D and 3D design, engineering and entertainment software). This competition debuted on March 15th and gives consumers the opportunity to design the LG phone of their dreams.

LG Announces Phone Design Competition, in Partnership With CrowdSPRING

More than $80,000 in prizes are available as part of this challenge. 40 winners will be awarded on this occasion, with the first place winner getting $20,000, a Wacom Intuos4 media tablet and Autodesk industrial design software. The second place winner gets $10,000 and Autodesk SketchBook Pro software, while the third place winner will receive $5,000 and Autodesk SketchBook Pro software.

37 honorable mentions of $1,000 each will also be awarded. The competition ends on April 26, 2010 and requires participants to be US residents (citizen or green card holders), who are 18 years of age and older. Autodesk will supply entrants in the competition with a free 15 day trial version of SketchBook Pro, a paint and drawing app compatible with the Mac and PC.

We have to mention that this year’s challenge also involves Russell Bobbit, a famous movie prop master, who will award “The Prop Master’s Choice” to a competition entrant, who will receive $3,000 and the Autodesk SketchBook Pro software. Also, the winning design will be made into a mockup device that will be used in Bobbitt’s next movie. Bobitt worked on great titles like Iron Man, Iron Man 2 and Star Trek, so it’ll be great for the winner of that prize.

More details on the competition can be found here.

LG Sphere, a Phone Based on 3D Interaction/ 3D Touch Interface Loading ... First of all: Happy new year! And now let’s move on to the very first cellphone design of 2010, albeit we suspect it’s a 2009 project: LG Sphere. This LG concept phone is the result of the work of the Domus Academy, collaborating with LG Electronics and Gino Finizio Design Management. Their purpose was to develop a phone that’s both high tech, touch-based and relying on 3D interaction.

LG Sphere, a Phone Based on 3D Interaction/ 3D Touch Interface

LG Sphere measures 100 mm in height, 65 mm in width, it uses a 3D touch interface and it incorporates 3 side hardware buttons for immediate interaction. There’s also an on screen keyboard involved in this design and a 3D navigation system that would make any GPS jealous. There’s a very neat video after the break, if you’re curious regarding the handset’s features.

Sphere is the creation of Italian designer Federico Weber and it integrates GPS and Bluetooth, that help recognize the position of the user, so the phone can adapt to surrounding area and mood. Thus, it can change color and settings, depending on the place where you use it. The LG phone uses an interface shaped like a half-sphere and a convex display, for better 3D effects.

LG Helix Cellphone is Also a Slap Bracelet Loading ... Being fancy is more important to some than being technologically up to date and this trend was also followed by designer Rob Luna, who created the LG Helix concept phone. This device can also be used as a slap bracelet and worn on the owner’s wrist. There’s also an LED section up front, showing you the needed updates.

The user can change the handset’s functions by shifting LED strips and you should know that LG Helix incorporates flexible circuits and touchscreen.

This device is made of black stainless steel and rubber elastic and it can also be attached to the belt, via a magnetic charger that uses the kinetic energy generated by the user to juice the cellphone.

LG Burst Projector Phone Comes With Media Editing, Video Conferencing Loading ... LG Burst is a concept phone that incorporates a projector and comes with all the important features of touch phones. This handset can project images on flat surfaces, thanks to its side-mounted projectors and the needed software, that deforms the touch space display.

LG Burst Projector Phone Comes With Media Editing, Video Conferencing

The LG concept phone’s touchscreen is a standard unit, but you’ll also be able to operate it by using the virtual projected screen space. Burst is able to project HD interactive full colour touch areas, that display menus, apps and everything you need. Also, the device relies on a fresh interface that uses sound and motions sensors to detect the user’s actions.

LG Burst also supports video conferencing, through a technology that helps the deaf and hearing impaired users communicate better. Games are also on board, as well as document and media editing , web browsing on the virtual screen, music playback and more. If Samsung’s able to manufacture a projector phone, why wouldn’t LG also create a cool model like this?

LG Traveler Concept Phone, a Winner in My Book Loading ... We’re not sure if the LG Traveler concept phone took part in the LG Design the Future Competition, or if it won, but it sure is a winner in my book. Created by Andrew Zheng, the handset is a thin slider with a touchscreen on board and a physical button keypad.

LG Traveler Concept Phone, a Winner in My Book

The unusual shape of the LG Traveler phone was created for better grip and this aspect gets enhanced also thanks to rubbers grips on the side. What’s neat is that the concept integrates a portable USB flash drive, for better connectivity and easier handling of content and transferring from PC to phone and viceversa.

Traveler comes with a Bluetooth Instant Media Share feature, that allows the users with the same model to quickly exchange info and there’s even a “ready to go” folder, always about to be sent to the person you connect to via Bluetooth. Picture cropping is also supported on the device, thanks to the touchscreen technology and there’s even a GPS hotspot application included.

LG Traveler Concept Phone, a Winner in My Book

The GPS hotspot app allows one to save and pinpoint his or her favorite places, from a picnic spot, to the place you parked your car or the area you lost your dog. LG Traveler includes a simple top LED caller display, making the visualisation of the caller or time easier, when the phone is in your pocket.

At the back of the handset there’s a 5 megapixel camera with flash and I really have to say that I’m impressed with this concept, perhaps even more than this other LG phone design. What do you say?
