Dual Display Windows Phone Unit is a Futuristic Flip Phone

Note: There is a rating embedded within this post, please visit this post to rate it.Created by David Quijada (Amaqui), this Windows Phone concept is basically a flip phone of the future, with a very slim design and powerful specs. This would make a brilliant Keitai for Japan, the popular format that handsets adopt there being the clamshell.

Named the Graphen ZN-500, this smartphone uses a dual capacitive display, each of the screens being 5 inches in diagonal and supports a 1920 x 640 pixel resolution. This is a Windows Phone 7.5 unit with a Qualcomm Snapdragon S8 processor and a 14.1 megapixel camera. There’s also a transmutative system on board, which I guess means that the screens are able to rotate in any direction and turn the flip phone around as the user pleases. You can even use it as a Nokia E7 lookalike, if you want, with a display being the main one and the other being the keyboard.

This extremely thin device is original, good looking and the only problem I have with it is the decreased width. Would you buy this clamshell nowadays when such designs are rare?

Windows Phone Apollo Concept Involves Redesigned Metro UI

Note: There is a rating embedded within this post, please visit this post to rate it.Yanko Andreev imagined a very interesting, clean and user-friendly interface for the next iteration of Windows Phone, that involves a brand new Metro UI. As you can see, the tiles are bigger and prettier and there’s much more here than meets the eye. Here’s what the new interface is about:

The designer wants to see a 5 inch device with 1280 x 800 resolution by the end of a year, a Windows Phone Apollo model and all the features of this concept Windows Phone release came from him and the suggestions he got from users. The UI is created with the idea of an infinite canvas, so there’s no need to be limited by the screen. This render brings us a new lockscreen, that allows you to choose clock size and position, type notifications and weather settings. Landscape mode is also supported, a feature that I really wanted for a while now and that fits the Windows 8 look that will come in the future.

The new tiles are live, active and scrollable ones with direct control from them, so you won’t have to enter the tile to change something. Also, there are 3 active and customizable swiping modes for each part of the display, depending on the landscape or portrait mode. So, if you swipe from the right of the screen you’ll reveal the last notification and when you swipe from the bottom you open up the applications. The idea of swiping must have come from Windows 8, I guess… And finally, swiping from the top opens a small panel with quick settings.

So, what do you think of this? Will it make Windows Phone more viable?

Nokia Xbox Phone Involes Razer, Intel and Microsoft – Nokia Atlas

Dubbed the Nokia Atlas, this model was created by Bob Freking and it’s more of a list of specs and a shade of the handset than a real concept. We’re dealing here with a supposed project of Nokia, Razer and Intel, that give you the ultimate portable gaming experience.

We’ve got a 1.5GHz x86 dual core Intel CPU, 2 GB of RAM and a custom build of Windows Phone, specifically created around the Xbox experience and focused on gaming. There’s also a 41 megapixel PureView camera at the back and I’m expecting a top notch screen here, maybe something like 4.5 inches Super AMOLED Plus with 1080p resolution, that would blow the competition away. Sony tried its hand at a PSP Phone and that didn’t work out so well, but if Microsoft, Nokia and Intel give it a go they might make it.

Let’s just hope that such a model won’t end up like the Microsoft Kin phones. And how about including Kinect on this Nokia Atlas smartphone? What do you say?

Windows Phone 8 Design Ideas and an xPhone to Suit Them

Note: There is a rating embedded within this post, please visit this post to rate it.Shaik Imaduddin sent me an email detailing his ideas regarding the way that Windows Phone 8 will look like. The OS is shown on a new concept phone, the Microsoft xPhone, that runs WP8. This handset comes with a 4.7 inch display, a dual core 1.6 GHz processor and a Kinect sensor built in, so that the phone can be used with gestures instead of touch. I have to remind you that WP8 is also codenamed Apollo, in cas you’ve heard about it.

As you can see the idea of Windows Phone 8 is a horizontally scrolling interface that now divides the purposes of the phone between entertainment and productivity. There’s a Start area at the top and a Live area at the bottom, that includes tweets, weather and other stuff happening in real time. This sort of horizontal UI is used in the Zune area of Windows Phone and also in the Windows Phone Marketpace, so why not expand the concept to the entire operating system?

It always felt a bit limited to only swipe to the right and reach the apps list and that’s it. Maybe now with big tiles instead of those tiny little apps in that huge vertical list we’ll get things going. However, that would mean a lot of scrolling to the right and left…

Windows 8 Watch Phone Is the Coolest Gadget Dick Tracy Could Have

Note: There is a rating embedded within this post, please visit this post to rate it.Although Mithun Darji, the creator of this watch phone concept says that this is a Windows 7 device, I tend to believe it’s either based on Windows Phone 7 or Windows 8, considering those tiles. It’s still a pretty cool device, that Dick Tracy would wear in a heartbeat. The wrist watch with phone functions can do many tasks, it integrates media playback keys, Bluetooth and WiFi.

It also integrates an earpiece, volume buttons and 4 shortcut keys at the bottom, that looks like call/end call keys, a button for the web browser and probably a Back button. I guess that there’s also a camera on board and at least 8GB of storage should be available on the watch phone. The designer says that the styling of the device is inspired by the retro-futurist trend and the Matrix movie, as far as form factor is concerned. I’ve always thought that the tiles from Windows Phone would be great on a watch, considering they can take up a small space and still be easy to use.

After all, this will be the idea behind the future generations of low end Windows Phone models, that Windows Phone Tango will support with 320 x 240 pixel resolutions, according to rumors, plus QWERTY keyboards. I’d see Windows Phone running on a watch, especially since it only requires a small resolution , a mere 1GHz CPU and only 512MB of RAM. Also, the price will be decent if someone like Huawei or LG makes it…

Meet the Nokia Xbox tablet, a gaming device imagined by Bob Freking, who also wants the Nvidia Tegra 4 (Wayne) processor on this slate. This is intended as a competitor for the Sony Tablet S and Tablet P and it comes in 320GB and 250GB versions.

The Nokia Xbox tablet is supposed to provide the Xbox gaming experience on the go and the designer warns us that this device can become expensive. You can download real Xbox games on it and convert/render the graphics so it doesn’t use up too much battery and memory. The Nokia Tablet is supposed to be called Nokia X Slate and it will pack 2 GB of RAM, the Nvidia Tegra 4 Wayne processor (1.5GHz) and a big 9500 mAh battery.

This device can dual boot Windows 8 or the dashboard and Nokia X Slate has 2 USB ports, a mini HDMI, a 2 megapixel front camera, WiFi support, 4G/3G connectivity and more. The form factor is a bit sloped, so it’s thinner at the top and bulkier at the bottom. Would you like this more than the Sony Tablet S?

Nokia 1 Tablet Runs Windows 8, Offers a Slim Design

Note: There is a rating embedded within this post, please visit this post to rate it.After the crazy success of the Nokia Tab Windows 8 tablet concept, now we have another similar design, this time created by YrOnimuS (Jonas Daehnert). He envisions a slate that reminds me a bit of the Nokia N9, but in a larger form factor, that involves a 11.6 inch AMOLED screen and a very thin case. There’s a good chance that the real device might look like this, when it will be unveiled at Nokia Connection 2012.

Nokia 1 Tablet measures 8.5mm in thickness, weighs 580 grams, supports a 1280 x 800 pixel resolution and comes with a 5 megapixel camera at the back with 1080p video capture at 30 fps. There’s also a 2 megapixel camera at the front, 32/64GB of internal storage, 2GB of RAM, a Li-Po 7500 mAh battery and the OS of choice is Windows 8 ARM Edition. This Nokia tablet concept also includes an active digitizer, based on Wacom technology.

Such a slim and light tablet with Wacom tech and the latest in Microsoft software might become the Hub of your Office experience and a brilliant tool for trendsetting designers and people who draw/create art/sketches and more. Since we handle designer concepts every day, I’ll ask you: is this tablet ideal for a person who draws on the go?

Xbox Prestige Concept Uses Second Generation Kinect Technology and 8 Core Processor

Note: There is a rating embedded within this post, please visit this post to rate it.Joseph Dumary recently showed us his latest design, the Xbox Prestige concept, a beautiful console, that can be seen in the following images. This device is smaller than the “Xbox Slim”, has lower power consumption and it’s very silent, making almost no noise. Also, it benefits from DirectLOAD technology, that instantly loads the games when you turn on the console.

Kinect generation two is also here, under the name KinectIN, but this time it’s built into the console and allows you to talk to the device, interact with it through gestures and more. Voice recognition is supported through a certain profile and the Xbox Prestige will respond to your commands. KinectIN uses two cameras and four sensors, plus a microphone with high sensitivity. KinectIN isn’t used for games, though, according to Joseph, the creator of the Xbox concept.

Its purpose is also to scan chips in your Xbox Card, a new system of purchasing games and storing them on the internal 2TB hard drive of the console. Wireless connection with the TV is also available here and the Xbox Prestige now comes with 8 cores of power, 3D 4K2K graphics, multiTV, Live TV, Live Webcam and much more. Face recognition is also enabled and now the Xbox controllers seem to have a display with game info, battery data and much more. Cool right?

Nokia Windows Phone Leaks Different From the Sea Ray, Most Likely Mockups

Note: There is a rating embedded within this post, please visit this post to rate it.The web has been abuzz today with the leaked photos of new Nokia Windows Phone devices… Apart from the Sea Ray, these are unique units that I haven’t seen before and they seem to come from Microsoft, according to a source close to the matter. The question is: are they mere concepts or real devices?

As a guy who has seen many designs and prototypes, I’d say that they’re real, since usually concepts don’t look so believable and thought through. I could be mistaking and someone must have really went through some trouble, to make this look real. There’s also the original video that included these images and now it’s gone from YouTube, a clear sign that there’s something going on.

It’s finally nice to see some other design that the N9 being used for WP7 Mango OS… It would have been a pity to copy the MeeGo-based N9 and recycle it with WP7, although some people seem to really love that polycarbonate bundle of joy.

Windows 8 Tablet Concept Unveiled by Microsoft

Note: There is a rating embedded within this post, please visit this post to rate it.Microsoft showed the world its Windows 8 tablet concept during the Worldwide Partner Conference 2011 presentation from yesterday. This is a prototype model with an early version of Windows 8 and we have no idea who made this test unit.

It could be HP, it could be Dell, or maybe some Asian company such as ASUS or HTC. Microsoft intends to build Windows 8 for both the tablet and desktop experience and give us a pretty open system, but let’s see how open it will be in comparison with Android. Win 8 borrows some Windows Phone 7 design elements, as noticed from the huge tiles on the screen.

This looks like a 10.1 inch model and the tablet actually looks pretty thick for a modern slate. I guess that some people will have their portable Xbox fantasies fulfilled once this unit supports Xbox 360 games.
