Nokia World 2011 brought us the first Windows Phone 7.5 Mango devices from Nokia and now maybe it’s time to start looking for the first Windows 8 tablet made by the Finns. This could be a slate that looks like the device pictured below, a mere render of a tablet inspired by the Nokia N9.

Nokia must be careful here not to make the same mistake it did when trying to enter the market of netbooks. The Nokia Booklet 3G failed miserably because of the price and I really can’t see a solid reason for its purchase. Since Nokia is all about Microsoft these days, why wouldn’t they also join hands in the tablet field?
I know that MS has been trying long and hard to come up with an iPad rival… Thus, now that the Steve Jobs official biography revealed that the iPad was in fact an idea started to tease Microsoft, the Redmond giant has all the reasons to retaliate and the hardware coming from Nokia to be able to do so. Do you give a Nokia Win 8 tablet any chance of survival?
[Thanks Premysl Vaculík for the tip]

Remember the
Nokia Morph flexible concept from 3 years ago? Well, it’s only now that Nokia has started moving to that direction, creating a flexible display device or two, showcased during this week’s Nokia World 2011 event in London. The result can be seen below:

This is the prototype Nokia Kinetic Device, that supports display flexing on the vertical and horizontal axis. You can bend and twist the screen to control the interface, for example bending the display to yourself in order to select stuff or zoom in on pictures. If you’re listening to music you can use the tactile area to navigate, stop or play a song.
There’s still a long way to go till mass production, but at least there’s a prototype to build upon. The curios thing here is that Nokia was shy of detailing the screen technology, so this could mean it’s not the flexible AMOLED we’ve seen on Samsung and Sony’s side for a while now. The viewing angles are also pretty good when it comes to the Nokia flexible concept phone.

Next week will be all about Nokia World 2011 and the Nokia 800 (Sea Ray), Sabre and Ace models, but till then let’s have a look at a fresh concept from Shihuzaan. Dubbed Nokia 903 or simply Precious, this is a Windows Phone device, that’s pictured below.

To me this looks like a combo between a WP7 Samsung and a HTC with a design that’s more curved than usual. Nokia 903 features an 8 megapixel Carl Zeiss camera, a 1.4GHz processor and 16/64GB of internal memory plus NFC. These specs look pretty much like the ones of the Nokia 800, so it’s not at all a Nokia concept that’s far from reality.
Some compare it to the Sony Ericsson Satio, but to me it’s simply too wide for my liking. What’s your take on this model and its design? Would like to see something like this featured at Nokia World?

We’ve seen so many Nokia Windows Phone concepts lately, that we won’t even be able to tell them from the real thing… Supposedly, the real thing should look like the device pictured below, the Nokia Searay for T-Mobile Germany, that has just leaked. I guess we’ll see it for the first time officially at Nokia World 2011 at the end of October.

Till then we can detail what we have here and the description in German says that the Nokia Searay offers 3D navigation, voice navigation, Windows Phone 7.5 Mango and a 3.7 inch AMOLED display. Notice the huge resemblance in design with the Nokia N9, not that it’s a bad thing, since that look was very hot when it debuted.
Also, I hope that the name Genesis won’t stick, since it’s not catchy and should be replaced with something like W8 or W800 or maybe N1. As far as specs go, a recent leak mentioned that the Searay or Sea Ray, as some people spell it will use a Clearblack AMOLED display, a 1.4GHz CPU, 16GB of internal memory and an 8 megapixel Carl Zeiss camera.

Don’t we just adore a concept Nokia made by the Finns? We’ve just come across a new image of a Symbian Belle model that hasn’t been launched and it’s not even a certain product yet… This piece of design was spotted in a recent NFC demo video showcasing the features of this short range technology on Nokia models.

We can compare this unit with a Nokia 700 with a strange chin, or maybe a Nokia 5800, that has been made thinner, lighter and more rounded. Some say that this unit looks very much like the iPhone 4, but frankly what doesn’t look like an Apple handset these days? The real appeal here is Symbian Belle and the fact that this looks like a lower model than the previously leaked Belle units, so we might actually get a good price for a phone like this.
If Nokia decided to implement a curved display on this model, it would look like a Nexus S, but it still would be pretty hot. From the looks of it, this Nokia concept phone is pretty glossy and it should have a 5MP camera at the back and maybe a 800 MHz – 1GHz CPU inside.

Nokia Essence is a concept that doesn’t stray at all from the basic idea of the phone: connecting people globally via all the means possible. Created by Siriphong Roongruengvuthikul, this Nokia concept supports the management of the user’s connections in two fashions: locally and globally.

In the local range you’ll connect all your devices in a single network, either via pairing, Internet or both. Nokia Essence will provide a global connection joining two or more users in a single global network. As far as design goes, the handset is basic and simple, sporting a switch at each end, with the top one being used to turn on and off the local connection.
The bottom switch handles the global connection and sharing with others. This phone is about calling people and connecting to them and getting more into the hardware, we find that the shells can slide over and unveil the number dialing buttons, with the numeric pad being very comfortable. A nifty feat is that if you press and hold the number 5 key a menu will appear.
On the back there’s an original touchpad, that can be used to control many applications and even other wireless gadgets. Incredible? Yes! Futuristic Nokia? Not so much, since the Finns can pull this off even today.

Here we are again, yet again with a Nokia Windows Phone device that runs Mango OS. This time it’s a model created by Deviantart user Larmthe4, who shows us a Nokia concept phone with a 4.2 inch AMOLED HD multitouch display, a 1GHz CPU and 768MB of RAM.

The Mango OS smartphone packs 576MB of ROM, 16GB of internal memory and a Carl Zeiss 12 megapixel camera with dual LED flash. Nokia W7 looks extremely skinny and bundles innovative ports such as a microUSB 3.0 and mini HDMI. This model measures 9.8mm in thickness, weighs 142 grams and adopts a curvy look, that’s the most modern industrial phone design nowadays.
There’s also a camera button on board and the classic WP7 interface with a touch of Mango and the novelty it brings. Till we get to see the real and first Windows Phone 7.5 handsets, concepts such as the Nokia W7 remain a landmark in the handset segment. Will the Nokia Sea Ray look anything like this? What do you say?

Before you’re intrigued as to why I’m posting this, let me make this clear: this device is a concept used by Nokia in a video to showcase the NFC abilities of its handsets. Thus, don’t expect the best of design here, just a simplistic unit with a very rounded form factor.

This is a Symbian Belle Nokia model with a curved screen that was spotted in a video running on a Nokia 700, that was demoed recently. This seems to continue the trend started with the Nokia N9, just like the N8 opened the road for devices to follow it. One must also notice that the call/end/menu keys are capacitive, which is certainly new to the world of Symbian.
There’s a speculation that this is actually a qHD display handset, the N8-01, if there is such a thing out there. Also in this leak there’s an interesting service called Nokia AirCloud, making us think of a future solution for working in the cloud entirely, maybe some backup, maybe some Google Docks style action?

Alberto Pietrobon decided to borrow the Nokia E6 design and implement Windows Phone on it, for a result that easily fits in the touch and type segment. What came out was the Nokia 950 concept phone, possibly featuring Mango OS and giving us a QWERTY keyboard to interact with.

What’s interesting is that the wide display of the Nokia E6 allows us to use 3 columns of WP7 tiles and under the display it’s easy to spot those classic Windows Phone buttons. It would be nice if the diagonal were more than 2.46 inches to be honest… and maybe this model fits rather in the 700 Series than the 900… just saying!
The specs are a mystery and they’re up to the reader to decide, so we might go classic here, with a single core 1GHz CPU, 512MB of RAM, 8/16GB of storage and a 5MP camera. Would Windows Phone be as usable and nifty looking on a smaller screen?

Some people really loved the top and bottom edges of the Nokia X7 model and would like to see more devices like that. Well a spin and tweak to this design has been done with shihuzaan, who created the Nokia 902
MeeGo concept phone shown in the following images and published by Mynokiablog.

Combining the traits of leaked Windows Phone models made by Nokia and the X7 we got this unit, that runs MeeGo, in the vanilla version. This is a high end model, considering the name and we learn that it comes with a 12 megapixel camera with Carl Zeiss optics and autofocus, a high resolution 4 inch display and 1.2 GHz dual core processor and GPU.
This unit is a mere 9.2mm thick, which is very impressive for a Nokia smartphone, even a modern one. Having tested the X7, I have to say that I hope to see similar designs in the future and maybe those edges will hold speakers this time, as it was believed originally and not only have 4 corner grilles for nothing…
