HTC Dark Runs Android 5.0 Jelly Bean, Has Nifty Blue LED Notification

HTC Dark Runs Android 5.0 Jelly Bean, Has Nifty Blue LED Notification Loading ... My wish came true! I posted on the Concept Phones Facebook Page a challenge for designers to try and imagine the way Android 5.0 Jelly Bean will look and already there’s an idea. Hasan Kaymak imagined the HTC Dark concept phone, a quad core phone with the future Android on it. This device relies on a Qualcomm S4 quad core processor at 1.7 GHz.

HTC Dark also uses a full HD display with the LG Nova technology, a 4.7 inch diagonal and Gorilla Glass 2 protection. Sense UI 5.0 is also on board, with some nifty blue-ish hues and a blue LED notification system. We also get Bluetooth 4.0, LTE, WiFi (60Ghz) and wireless charging. Powering this HTC concept there’s a 2500 mAh Li-Ion battery. There’s also a camera at the back which the designer didn’t mention, but I imagine it’s a 12 megapixel or 8 megapixel unit with 1080p capture at 60 fps.

The interface of this Android 5.0 render is particularly clear and clean and the notification area looks very nice. This certainly is not your average Sense UI experience and as you can see, the four capacitive buttons are back, instead of the three in Android 4.0. I wonder if Google will do that, considering they’re preaching the use of 3 buttons instead of 4 now…

BlackBerry Glide Smartphone Is an Interesting Side Sliding Device

BlackBerry Glide Smartphone Is an Interesting Side Sliding Device Loading ... Deviantart user styllfresh proposes a new design for future BlackBerries through the following device: BlackBerry Glide. This side slider is only one of the many BlackBerry concepts I’ve seen over the past months and still Research in Motion denies us the innovation and only serves us tehe same old crappy designs. It’s a shame, right?

BlackBerry Glide Smartphone Is an Interesting Side Sliding Device

The BlackBerry Glide features a simplistic facade, with a 4 inch display (I’m speculating), plus the call, end call buttons and a Home button thrown in for good measures. On the side you’ll see sliding a nifty keyboard with a comfy space keys and backlight keys that seem easy to type on. The keyboard has 3 rows of letters and an extra row of functional keys such, as uppercase, symbols, Space and… lol?! Getting past that aspect I’d really like to see the back of this smartphone, as I’m curios if the camera is integrated in the sliding part or it’s in the display section.

Anyway cameras were never a focus on BlackBerry models, so I’ll be happy if anything this elegant ever leaves the factory working for RIM.

HTC 2012 Concept, by Gregory Pizzatto Loading ... If you’re not familiar with the work of Gregory Pizzatto, feel free to click his name and find out what other concept handsets he designed till now. Today we get to see a 2012 design, the one of a futuristic HTC smartphone, that seems to be bulky at first, but then reveals a pretty elegant profile.

HTC 2012 Concept, by Gregory Pizzatto

The 2012 HTC concept is very wide and very thin, has an interesting collection of buttons at the front (or maybe it’s a metallic grille, like the one a car), below the display. At the back there’s a 12 megapixel camera with dual LED flash and for some reason I think that this device is a quad core Tegra 3 unit. I  like the texture at the back very much and the entire handset feels like an elegant machine. The volume buttons on the side remind me a bit of the iPhone 4, or maybe an elegant watch.

I wonder if the texture at the back is crocodile skin or maybe the Kevlar weaving from the Motorola Droid RAZR. What do you figure it is?

Windows Phone Ornella Should Teach Nokia Some Lessons

Windows Phone Ornella Should Teach Nokia Some Lessons Loading ... The following smartphone concept is created by Deviantart user Sharkurban (Retovona Michael) and it looks like the perfect combo between an iPhone and the Zune. Well, maybe the back design is a bit too much like the iPad’s form factor, but the front is original and spectacular. The lack of true display edges makes me think of ClearBlack technology, so that’s why I said Nokia should pay attention.

Windows Phone Ornella Should Teach Nokia Some Lessons

Known as Ornella, this Windows Phone device seems to have a 3.8 to 4.2 inch display (I’m guessing) and it comes with the usual keys for WP use, but they seem to be touch ones. We have a camera at the back that looks like HTC material, if you analyze the design and we’ve also got 4G connectivity on this model, as shown on screen. I’m guessing that Windows Phone 8 Apollo runs on this handset and that there’s a dual core 1.5 GHz CPU inside. Once again, these are all my speculations.

Can’t really tell if there’s a front camera here, of it the designer can fit one onto the device… This phone tends to feel a bit too sleek and compact for the user’s hand, so one may feel like dropping it when swiping to the left and right in Metro UI. Do you fancy the Windows Phone Ornella concept?

HTC Google+ Phone, a Fresh Sketch in 2012

HTC Google+ Phone, a Fresh Sketch in 2012 Loading ... If you’re tired of phone mockups, renders and prototypes, this time we show you a sketch of a HTC concept phone created by Adam Jonovski. He imagined a HTC smartphone with a pretty bulky case and 4 capacitive buttons at the bottom, with one of them being a Google+ one. Just like those HTC Facebook phones, this is a device focused on social networking.

HTC Google+ Phone, a Fresh Sketch in 2012

The device seems to have an interesting integration of the camera and these models here are actually two separate units. The second one has a unique camera sensor, bulkier than the rest of the case and seems separated from it, while the buttons at the front remind me of the Lenovo ThinkPad tablet. I like the way that camera area slopes up into a bulkier piece of the case. That’s an interesting form factor. I also see that Adam likes rectangular handsets, so there’s no trace of rounded edge on the second phone.

The first model, with the Google+ integration seems to run Android 4.0, has A Verizon branding and the idea of Google+ phone really makes me excited. I am a big Google+ fan, much more than Facebook and Twitter, that are already integrated into most smartphones. Are we ready to receive Google’s social networking service on our handsets as a button and omnipresent feature?

MacPad Pro Concept, a Hybrid Between the MacBook Pro and the iPad

MacPad Pro Concept, a Hybrid Between the MacBook Pro and the iPad Loading ... Designer Jules Moretti imagined the perfect portable device from Apple, the MacPad Pro. This concept laptop is a hybrid between the famous iPad and the MacBook Pro and it obviously integrates a touch display, plus a touch keyboard. The display and keyboard seem to share one common touch area with a very minor hinge.

MacPad Pro Concept, a Hybrid Between the MacBook Pro and the iPad

Basically we’re dealing with two iPads united through a hinge and working together at the same time. The unit is a lightweight device, that can be held as a book, if you want to. It hasn’t got Ethernet and Firewire 800 ports, in order to keep the body thinner, but at least we get 3 USB 3.0 ports and Thunderbolt connectors. I imagine that the battery life will be huge here, around 20 hours or so, considering an iPad gives you about 10 hours of functioning time.

I’m also expecting a different keyboard layout on the keyboard touch area, I mean different from the one on the iPad, since the keys can now occupy the entire screen, or maybe go with the split screen view. Finally, I wonder if there’s a need to implement a virtual touchpad or not, considering there’s so much screen area to touch… I can imagine the MacPad Pro as the perfect tool for designers and maybe sometime in the future we’ll see a PhotoShop Touch meant for this experience.

Nokia 808 Pureview Mockup Picture Shows a Potential Design of the N8 Successor

Nokia 808 Pureview Mockup Picture Shows a Potential Design of the N8 Successor Loading ... Nokia 808 Pureview is a device that’s supposed to be the next big cameraphone, the successor to the Nokia N8 handset. This phone will be shown at Mobile World Congress 2012 and for now we have a mockup of the smartphone, rendered by artist Brian. As you can see, the design sticks to the classic Nokia styling from 2-3 years ago.

Nokia 808 Pureview Mockup Picture Shows a Potential Design of the N8 Successor

This render is based on a leak of a user manual for the Nokia 808, that was published on the web awhile ago. We’re expecting here a huge camera sensor, maybe a 16 megapixel unit and either a Xenon or dual LED flash. Carl Zeiss technology is a must and this model is supposed to run Symbian or as it’s called now Nokia Belle or maybe even Nokia Carla. Well, I guess that if the phone is thin overall no one will mind its bulky camera sensor, right?

After all Samsung and Motorola have been pulling the same trick with the Galaxy S II and Droid RAZR, keeping the handsets slim up to the camera sensor, where they get thicker. Would you buy this Nokia 808 Pureview cameraphone considering the fame of its predecessor? We’ll see the real deal at MWC 2012 at the end of the month…

Motorola Android 4.0 Smartphone Powered by Intel CPU Gets Rendered Loading ... The image below is a render of the future Motorola phone with Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, the company’s first unit with an Intel Medfield processor. Motorola usually relies on Texas Instruments, Nvidia or Qualcomm for its processing solutions, but now they’re switching to Intel for some reason. Expect to see this phone live at MWC 2012.

Motorola Android 4.0 Smartphone Powered by Intel CPU Gets Rendered

No idea if they’ll use the Intel Medfield solution exactly, but that’s the favourite, considering Lenovo also relied on the same 1.6GHz CPU for the K800 smartphone shown at CES 2012. I guess that Texas Instruments will be disappointed by this choice, since they’ve been a traditional partner for Motorola for a while now. The device you see here will even sport those capacitive buttons at the bottom, the classic ones from Ice Cream Sandwich, that make that useless bezel even longer.

People have said that this design is a bit ugly for a modern phone, but I’ll leave that up to you to judge… Do you dig this model of does it look like an antique smartphone from the early 2000s? I’m not a very big fan of its design myself, especially after that nice Motorola Droid RAZR.

Windows Phone 8 Design Ideas and an xPhone to Suit Them

Windows Phone 8 Design Ideas and an xPhone to Suit Them Loading ... Shaik Imaduddin sent me an email detailing his ideas regarding the way that Windows Phone 8 will look like. The OS is shown on a new concept phone, the Microsoft xPhone, that runs WP8. This handset comes with a 4.7 inch display, a dual core 1.6 GHz processor and a Kinect sensor built in, so that the phone can be used with gestures instead of touch. I have to remind you that WP8 is also codenamed Apollo, in cas you’ve heard about it.

Windows Phone 8 Design Ideas and an xPhone to Suit Them

As you can see the idea of Windows Phone 8 is a horizontally scrolling interface that now divides the purposes of the phone between entertainment and productivity. There’s a Start area at the top and a Live area at the bottom, that includes tweets, weather and other stuff happening in real time. This sort of horizontal UI is used in the Zune area of Windows Phone and also in the Windows Phone Marketpace, so why not expand the concept to the entire operating system?

It always felt a bit limited to only swipe to the right and reach the apps list and that’s it. Maybe now with big tiles instead of those tiny little apps in that huge vertical list we’ll get things going. However, that would mean a lot of scrolling to the right and left…

Laptop Tablet Concept Uses a Touch Keyboard, Rotatable Display

Laptop Tablet Concept Uses a Touch Keyboard, Rotatable Display Loading ... Jay Hyun Kim imagined a device that already exists in the modern world: a laptop-tablet concept. We already have convertible tablets, like those made by Lenovo, sporting the same idea: a rotating display that comes on top of the keyboard and turns the laptop into a slate. This time, the designer takes the idea further and imagines a laptop that rather looks like an ultrabook with this rotating screen feature.

Laptop Tablet Concept Uses a Touch Keyboard, Rotatable Display

Another thing worth noticing is the touchscreen keyboard the device has at the top of that touchpad area. You can flip this laptop over 360 degrees and turn it into a tablet, if you want to. The device’s ultrabook-ish looks stem from that sloped form factor that I’ve seen in the ASUS Zenbook series, for example. On one side of the laptop tablet concept we have the power port, USB ports, audio jack, volume buttons and a button that turns the device from laptop to tablet and viceversa.

There also seems to be a stylus in the mix and we get OLED lights under the touchpad to visualize each use mode. From what I can see here this looks like a regular a Mac OS machine and takes advantage of the sloped design for a better viewing angle, that reminds me of the Sony Tablet S, honestly. What do you think? What would be the price for this beauty?
