We’ve mentioned
Sony Ericsson Kurara once before on our site, but now we have to detail it, in case you’re not familiar with this device. After stumbling upon it on the Esato board, as a concept created by FlamEmo, we’ve come across a bunch of “live pictures” of the handset, available after the break.

Turns out that this is a Sony Ericsson phone capable of HD video recording and it sports a design that looks very much like that of SE Satio. Kurara should be running Symbian S60 5th edition and it also features an 8.1 megapixel camera and a 3.5 inch OLED display.
So, what’s the deal? Is this device real or a mere Photoshop work? We’ve yet to find an answer for this question, but maybe you can help…

Flexible touch displays are fashionable now, as shown by the Mobile Script concept phone pictured below. This phone/laptop packs a small front touch display, plus a larger screen on the inside of the handset. The latter can be pulled out and become an even larger display, turning the device into some sort of mini laptop.
LATER EDIT: As pointed out by one of our commenters, we have written about this device before, over here. Yes, we’re human and we do forget…

A virtual QWERTY keyboard will be displayed and I’m pretty sure that the web browsing experience will be neat. Saying that the larger display is a flexible screen is a lucky guess, but it seems very likely, considering the current design trends.
Also, keep in mind that the Mobile Script concept device uses a nano material, covering it and turning solar energy into “juice” that powers the phone.

Esato board member and great designer J. Havrlant has finished the Sony Ericsson Arashi concept phone, after showing us
a teaser, a couple of days ago. We learn that the handset packs a 4 inch AMOLED touch display and a 12.1 megapixel camera with 3x optical zoom.

The designer claims that more details (and probably images) are coming soon and in case you’re wondering, this is a Symbian S60 device. Is this a cameraphone or simply a smartphone with a very, very good camera sensor?

I keep seeing Hannah Montana commercials and they’re really making me sick, so now I stumble upon a concept that would fit her universe perfectly: a pen phone. This
concept was created by designer Sam James Chu and it’s a pretty original cellphone, that comes with a new way of writing text messages and dialing numbers.

The pen phone is called Mimeo and allows the users to write texts without even looking at the handset’s screen. You’ll simply use the phone like a pen and write down the name of the person you want to call or write the text message by pressing the pen button placed at the lower part of the device.
Mimeo also incorporates an OLED touchscreen display, that eases the scrolling process. Quite an interesting device, I’ll give you that and I really dig the blue version of the handset.

What say you about a gadget that can control everything you use around the house? Some sort of
universal remote control, dubbed Cuppa and also used as a social laptop-like device, to keep you connected to your close and loved ones. Created by Ben Arrent, the concept can be seen in the images below.

This slim portable device comes with a wireless keyboard and monitor, support for Wi-Fi connectivity and it can stay connected to a local Cuppa Server. The latter will be used as a cache server for the info you need and you should know that the concept device also comes with a RFID reader, covering both a long and short range.
Cuppa can be considered some sort of bridge between the desktop devices and the cellphone, but one that fits your home perfectly. This portable gadget is energy efficient and comes with an OLED screen, plus tons of IM and social networking features.

Just when you think that everyone’s forgotten about the Apple tablet, here it comes again, smacking us right in the head with novelty. This time, we’re dealing with a prototype of the device, or better said some very cool photo manipulation and render, done by
Lucas Rosa. This “miniature laptop in tablet form” is some sort of hybrid between
Microsoft Courier and a WACOM tablet.

Nintendo DS was also used as an inspiration for the device, that supports gestures, like flipping virtual pages. Also, you should know that the iSlate or Netslate (would be names for the concept) measures about 14 x 21 cm and comes with two foldable parts, connected by a flexible hinge. The tablet uses the iPhone’s OS with some features taken from the desktop Mac OS X.
Pinching gesture is also supported, plus annotations, additional layers of information and even gaming, with virtual controls on screen. The display on this tablet concept is an AMOLED, thin and energy saving, while the memory is all SSD. USB and FireWire are not included, but WiFi and Bluetooth are, as well as induction charging. Hot concept!

The impressive
Nokia CORE concept phone is based around the universe and futurism graphics of Star Wars, which is a pretty cool idea, if you ask me. CORE’s most important aspect is the interface and you should know that the handset was designed around it and based on a styling that resembles a solar system.

The core of this solar system is the base of the phone, which is very user-friendly and it sports soft touch concavity on each side, for an easier grab and hold. What’s really interesting about Nokia CORE is the fact that it’ll transfer its interface and content automatically to the nearby computer through Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
After the transfer, CORE will turn into the mouse of the computer and it’ll control the device via its UI. At the back side of the concept phone there’s a camera lens, plus mouse buttons, both hidden pretty well. Also, you should know that the handset’s display is made from OLEDs, that are covered in anti scratch polycarbonate.
This is a pretty cool design, but we highly doubt that it’ll become a real product.

Remember the hot
Sony Ericsson Impersa concept we’ve shown you a couple of days ago? Well, aside from the original image of the device, we’ve now got a bunch of new shots, courtesy of its maker, Shane A. Bygrave. We remind you that this is Cyber-shot concept phone, with a 12.1 megapixel camera.

Also dubbed the Impersa HD, the device packs a 4.1 inch AMOLED capacitive touchscreen display with multi-touch support. The screen is protected against scratches, it supports portrait and landscape mode and you should know that the phone’s camera uses a Carl Zeiss lens, with autofocus, 3x optical zoom, XenonFlash, camera notification, self timer and night light.
A 3.5mm audio jack and a microSD card slot are also on the specs list of this concept. In the last image below, you can have a look at Impersa HD’s interface, looking pretty hot actually, specially if you take into account that this is a cameraphone.

We’ve shown you the teaser of the
Sony Ericsson Impersa concept phone a couple of days ago and now we’ve finally managed to see the finalized project. If you’re worried that two pics are too little for such a hot 12.1 megapixel cameraphone, don’t fret, as designer Shane A. Bygrave has got more shots coming.

Impersa is a Sony Ericsson cameraphone, part of the Cyber-shot series and supporting 3x optical zoom. The handset supports photoblogging, MMS, email and packs a 4.1 inch AMOLED capacitive multi-touch display. This touchscreen supports 800 x 1200 pixels resolution and comes with 720p HD video recording at 30 fps.
The concept phone is also called Impersa HD and it weighs 124 grams, plus it measures 113 x 58 x 17mm. The device runs on Android Open Source OS and uses a 1 GHz Snapdragon processor, supports 4G connectivity, UMTS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0, DLNA, USB, aGPS and GPS.
This cameraphone’s specs list also includes 512MB RAM, 1GB ROM, 4GB of internal memory and a microSD card slot with support for memory expansion of up to 120GB.

One of the designers we have come to know and appreciate,
Liam Quinn has just sent us a few renders of his brand new concept watch phones. Although the devices don’t have names yet, we know that Liam created 3 models: a low end unit that slides around the wrist, a mid end watch phone and a high end handset.

All of these concept handsets run a version of the LG watch phone OS and they incorporate a touch keypad, front facing camera and a flexible AMOLED touchscreen display. iChat is installed on the three devices and you should also know that they’re made out of a flexible, rubberised material, that can flatten itself or warp its body, delivering messages, phone calls or alerts.
The watch phones pictured in this article support induction charging and syncing, plus they all use Bluetooth technology for headsets and other connection. We’ll be back soon with another one of Liam’s projects, the ORB OS, a pretty interesting idea of an operating system and interface.

[Thanks Liam]
