Nokia N-Gage 2, Return of the Gaming Phone From Nokia, With a Nintendo Twist This Time

Note: There is a rating embedded within this post, please visit this post to rate it.Nokia’s N-Gage device was a hit when it came out, but it quickly died because of the lack of games. Many people have been expecting a resurrection of the product for a while now, but all we have at the time are concepts, like the N-Gage N-02 design you can see below, created by AMAQUI (ibolzurikato).

We’re dealing here with a gaming phone that runs Windows Phone and has a Nintendo twist to the experience, as shown by its sliding area with gaming controls and secondary touch pad/screen. It’s strange to see Microsoft giving its OS to something that’s not Xbox-based and instead uses Nintendo technology, but stranger things have happened. This new Nokia N-Gage uses a 4.1 inch OLED Gorilla Glass display, supports NES carts (somehow) and it’s compatible with all the famous Nintendo ROMs.

Inside there’s a 1.5GHz Snapdragon processor (in a dual core flavor probably) and we also get a 3D display, in case you’re wondering. Basically, imagine a hybrid between the Nintendo 3DS and a Windows Phone unit.. Would it sell better than the Xperia Play?

Sony Xperia Vita Concept May Finally be a Decent PSP Phone

Note: There is a rating embedded within this post, please visit this post to rate it.Let’s face it: the expectations for the PSP Phone were huge, so the Xperia Play was a bit underwhelming… Thus, we go back to concepts and find the consolation in their arms, with devices such as the Sony Xperia Vita concept below giving us hope. This work belongs to the designer Shaik Imaduddin and it actually has some nice features, that are detailed below.

Xperia Vita is supposed to be the next PlayStation Phone, one that features a 5 inch Reality Display with X-Reality Pro Picture engine and a 1920 x 1080 pixel resolution. Inside the gaming smartphone there’s a quad core Nvidia Tegra 3 processor with quad core graphics and at the back there’s a 16 megapixel camera with Xenon flash and 1080p video recording. The analog sticks on this baby will rise out of the body as you slide the handset up.

Speaking as a guy who didn’t like the Xperia Play, this is certainly a good idea and something that might actually work. Things I didn’t like about the first PSP Phone were the following: too little processing power, lag, too bulky and thick, button feedback wasn’t great, the screen was disappointing, games required touch input when they shouldn’t have, very few proprietary games at launch. Concept Portable Console Looks Interesting, Maybe Something that HTC Would Do

Note: There is a rating embedded within this post, please visit this post to rate it.For some reason, the following portable console design looks like something that HTC would do, also pairing Beats Audio with it. However that’s just my opinion on the beautiful concept created by Anton Shabramov from Ukraine. His idea looks really nice and involves two rotating gaming controls on the sides of the console.

I admit that the device looks a bit bulky, but it has that something that might make it famous… There’s also an analog stick or two available here and the screen has some anti glare system, that’s always welcome nowadays, when sun is an issue when using portable gaming devices outside. Matter rubber grips guarantee maximum grip and comfortable use of the console.

Also, this gaming system has universal plugs for headsets, mini blu-ray support, a memory card slot and batteries integrated into those arms. It would be cool to detach those arms and use them like the Wiimotes on the first generation Wii. Considering the use of Blu-ray technology, this is most likely a PSP concept, don’t you think?

PSP 4 Concept Looks Big, Advanced, Has Double Screen

This system involves two button pads, one on each side of the device, plus a widescreen touchscreen, that seems to fold up and unveil a double display.

This looks a bit like Sega’s Game Gear, so if you’re nostalgic, you’ll like the product. I can envision a 4 to 5 inch display available on board, in a double form that folds up and gives you double the screen estate. Also, an accelerometer, gyroscope, GPS, SIM card slot, microSD card slot and HDMI port would be on board.

Notice how cool the two shoulder buttons were integrated and how sleep the entire thing is. The portable console concept will most likely use direct software downloads for games, but I wouldn’t be surprised if a game cartridge would thrown in there for good measure, considering how wide this thing is.

Sony Ericsson Wilhelmina is a Quad Core Clamshell PlayStation Phone

Note: There is a rating embedded within this post, please visit this post to rate it.As mind boggling as it seems, there’s a quad core PlayStation phone with clamshell design out there, but worry not, as it’s a mere concept. Created by Esato board member Razec, this stunning device is pictured below and honestly the PS Vita ain’t got zilch on this unit.

Sporting a dual borderless touchscreen, the console phone can adopt a superwidescreen view, when the clamshell is open. The screen is panoramic and the lack of border between displays is a very welcome addition to the specs. The controls are virtual, or so they seem and we can notice the Xperia branding on this beauty.

We already know that in the Japan clamshells are still popular, so this model would probably be a hit, if not for the quad core processor, then for the PlayStation gaming experience it provides in widescreen mode. Would you choose this over PS Vita?

Portable Xbox 360, Not Something to Expect from Microsoft

Well, it seems that Microsoft is decided to capitalize on the Xbox Live service via the Windows Phone smartphones, making impossible a portable Xbox project.

Also, since Sony will sell the PlayStation Vita units at a loss for a couple of years, Microsoft wouldn’t want to take the same route, especially with such potent rivals. Plus, there’s now the Wii U tablet/controller to rival with… This means that the Xbox portable console must be truly incredible, both in price and specs, which is tough to do, after failures such as the Microsoft Kin and Courier.

Can MS deliver another good console after the success of the Xbox 360?

This incredible device is a worthy rival to the Sony NGP, as it comes with a 16:9 full HD AMOLED multitouch display, among others… The device also features a HD stereo speaker system and fingerprint identification for gamers.

A gyroscope, accelerometer and light sensor ensure a flawless gaming experience and the Consolor HD3 also uses a fron 8MP HD camera and a 12MP rear one with smile detectors and advanced zooming. On the connectivity side, you get WiMAX 4G, Bluetooth 2.1, DLNA and 3D full HD streaming straight to the TV.

Charging is inductive on this console and its memory is 250GB, enough for any gamer out there. An Android lakay Market and Interface are mentioned, complete with 2000 games, multitasking and basically every piece of technology one would want on a console/phone/tablet… Is this a dream come true or future console rivaling the Sony NGP?

Created by Hirotaka Matsui, the PS Square is a conceptual smart mobile device that’s oriented towards members of the public who are 12 to 14 years old.

PS Square supports induction charging, Bluetooth, possibly 3G and it embeds a microSD card slot. A QWERTY keyboard and a large (probably OLED) screen are incorporated and the device can connect to the PC and TV with ease, via wireless.

The same concept portable device supports social networking, gaming (as shown by the directional pad) and even school work, if you have time for that. Action keys are present as well and an eReader should be on board, too. It’s hard for me to see teenagers doing homework on this device, since I personally would be tempted to socialize and play games on it, but it’s an incredibly cool gadget, to be honest.

Even that “Coming Holiday 2011″ supposed launch date makes sense, with Engadget’s recent leak of info claiming that the product will be dubbed Sony S1 and announced this Fall.

This PSP Tablet is supposed to have dual analog sticks, a toughened 9 inch multitouch display, PSN integration and XMB. Trophy support is also included and be that there’s a quad core CPU hiding in there somewhere. Credits go out to SmoquGaming.

This device was designed by Esato board member pavlov’s dog and can be seen in the image below. The Xperia Play 2 (or Play Duo) keeps the sliding design, the portion above that reminds us of the Xperia X10 and the gaming controls.

There’s a quad core A9 CPU inside this newcomer, that’s only a concept right now and the screen is 4.5 inch in diagonal (720p OLED). Expect quite a number of years to pass before you see the next PSP Phone. Just remember how many it took to get here…
