Loading ... Loading ... It’s been a while since we last saw a Sony Ericsson concept phone and Shave A. Bygrave has a new design to show us, the Sony Ericsson W977 Walkman Phone. Featuring OLED technology, the Walkman 4.0 player, a 7.2 megapixel camera and Wi-Fi, this handset looks really nice, but I’d really love to check out its front side as well.

W977’s specs list also includes an accelerometer, Bluetooth 3.0 and DNLA. I wonder if the phone packs a touchscreen or not…

Loading ... Loading ... Samsung has already launched the Beat DJ phone, allowing its users to mix music, so there’s a pretty decent public segment out there made out of people who want to create and mix music on the go. Such folks would be tempted to use the fresh Motorola KRE8 concept phone, created by designer Jose Tomas DeLuna.

Motorola KRE8, a Concept Phone for DJs

KRE8 is able to split into 2 segments and it packs accelerometers and sensors, that detect the user’s gestures and turn them into commands. The device operates in 3 modes: Instrument Mode (guitar, violin, drums), Mix Mode and Record Mode, each of them based on your gestures.

The resulting output can be recorded as MIDI Signal and shared via 3G connectivity, also allowing other people to jam with you. Motorola KRE8 features a glass touchscreen, music editing apps, tagging audio content via GPS and musical social networking. There’s also a great video below, showing the device in action.

Sony Ericsson W502: “Touch it, Press it, Shake and Skip it”

Loading ... Loading ... We don’t only show uber-smartphones ready for launch or hot concept phones with many gigs of memory on board, but also low end devices that look good and mid-range phones like the one below, created by Xell from Esato.

Sony Ericsson W502: Touch it, Press it, Shake and Skip it

Sony Ericsson W502 is the candybar version of W508, considered by Esato user Tranced a hybrid between K700, W890 and W610. Seeing the words on the phone’s poster makes me think that it (obviously) supports gesture-based control and uses an accelerometer.

I wonder how long it will take till we start controlling our handsets through complex dance movements, or simply by playing Dance, Dance Revolution…

Sony Ericsson Develops Auto Zoom Cameraphones

Loading ... Loading ... SE’s not just into the megapixel race, as they prepare a 12 MP cameraphone, but they really want to change something in the photo functions compartment of their handsets. As proof stands their recent patent application that improves a camera’s zoom, by making the process automatic. It’s as easy as moving the cameraphone away from your body in order to zoom in and getting the handset closer for a zoom out.

This involves the use of accelerometers and proximity sensors, no biggie, as most modern handsets have those, but the idea is simplifying the task of taking a picture on the go.

Loading ... Loading ... In the latest Batman movie, “The Dark Knight”, the superhero uses Gotham’s handsets to “look through walls” in order to find out the position of the villains… Seems that this feature will soon be heading to KDDI phones as well, because the scientists of this company created a prototype that can use geomagnetic sensors, accelerometers and GPS to reveal its location.

Big Brother Concept Phone is a KDDI Scary Idea

This futuristic gizmo will render its surroundings on-screen in OpenGL and even cover areas that are not in sight. Is this the beginning of a huge Big Brother experiment conducted with the aid of our handsets?

You might not want to take your phone with you in order to hear someone calling the next time you take a shower… Who knows who’s spying?

Loading ... Loading ... The first Android smartphone, T-Mobile G1 was last week’s star for sure, but how about the concept phones that should have been the Google Phones? Here’s a brand new one for you, designed by Eduardo Altamirano Segovia. The concept device is based on the interaction of the screen’s centerline with the user’s thumb.

Google Phone Concept, Never Too Late!

This G-Phone features an OLED screen and a curved front surface, plus an accelerometer that detects the handset’s position and changes the functions of the “call-hang” or “yes-no” buttons. It’s a great design that will maybe make it to Google and HTC’s drawing board, as they start working on the next Android device.

Loading ... Loading ... Boy Genius Report managed to get their hands on a photo of the unknown till now LG Xenon. Turns out that it’s an AT&T branded handset that will be available at Christmas time. Hmm… a slider device with a QWERTY keypad a day after the T-Mobile G1 announcement? Do I smell rivalry?

LG Xenon, the HTC Dream Rival from AT&T Gets a Decent Specs List and Picture

A quick look at LG Xenon’s specs reveals the presence of a 3 megapixel camera, A-GPS, Wi-Fi, an accelerometer and a 950 mAh battery. Add the usual Bluetooth 2.0, USB 2.0 to that, plus a proximity sensor and 100 MB of internal memory and a microSD slot that adds another 16GB in the mix.

LG Xenon also incorporates a 240 x 480, 2.8″ LCD display and an EMP U330 Lite chipset, all of these “hidden” inside a 105.5 x 53.5 x 15.8 mm shell.

360 Touch Phone Concept, How ‘Bout 180?

Friday, August 22nd, 2008

1 Star2 Stars3 Stars4 Stars5 Stars (5 votes, average: 4.80 out of 5)

Loading ... Loading ... As I was saying in a post about the Peugeot 360 concept, this “360″ branding is all over the place now, like on consoles, tooth paste and Yahoo services. Phones are probably the only ones lacking this branding, but there’s a new “sheriff” in town, with the above-mentioned branding. Designed by Eno Setiawan and looking hot, the 360 Touch Phone is a promising smartphone.

360 Touch Phone Concept, How Bout 180?

It comes with a rotating screen, touch pad control, touch pen, a camera with flash, an accelerometer and wireless charging. And for the ones that’ll jump at my throat for comparing concepts with the iPhone, this is NOT an iPhone clone.
