Ladies will be pleased to know that there’s a
flexible phone around ready to be worn as a fashion accessory. We’re talking about the Flex Mobile concept, created by Carolina Rebelo and having the ability to flex according to your needs and wishes, thus becoming a bracelet, for example.

The handset charges using solar energy and you have to know that the Flex Mobile is covered with solar coating, for this purpose. You only need to place it in direct sunlight and in 5 hours it will get all the needed juice to operate. As far as bending the device is concerned, this flexible phone can bend to an angle of 30 degrees.
There’s also a camera on board, believe it or not and the LED screen is flexible, too. Sleek and modern, for modern women!

Created by Jason Betty, the LG Slide Phone is not an idea we haven’t seen before, with its rollout screen from the side of the device. This expanding section allows you to view web pages better, get some extra space for controls and navigation, plus cool gaming features.

We are however worried about the fragility of this mechanism, that looks very breakable, to be honest. The big display you see in these pics is rolled inside the LG Slide Phone, but you can also use the standard display, that’s big enough for a regular smartphone. We’re dealing with a very thin handset, one that comes with a fish eye mirror that can be used when taking pictures.
I guess that flexible display technology might be behind this unit, if it ever comes to life. It would mean that this LG concept phone is both a handset and tablet, an expandable one that is, with a folding screen.

How about a flexible tablet to brighten the CES-filled day? Andrew Nammiga from Orange County created the Flexible Modile, a mobile device that flexes and becomes a tablet. This touch sensitive gadget incorporates a flexible display and can fold out in order to be turned into a slate.

The external screen displays the background picked by the user and the unit is ruled by customizability, as its main aspect. There’s a videocall camera in there, plus the ability to turn the conceptual gadget into a photo frame or a media player. Also, considering that the display basically covers the entire device, you can change its looks in any way you want, as pointed out by the last pic below.
Android was chosen as the ideal OS for this concept!

Chinese designer Lu Yin is the creator of a mobile phone dubbed “Relexer”, a concept that can also be used a medical device. It’ll analyse the health condition of the user and it integrates a thermometer (worn around the wrist), and various types of sensors monitoring your physical condition.

Ailments will be predicted in time, thanks to Relexer and this is a gadget meant to help us get through daily stress and fight the side effects of eating junk food, sleeping less than 8 hours and working too much.
Since we don’t know more about the gadget, we can only suppose it integrates a flexible display and packs phone features, discretely integrated into it.

eBooks and e-readers aren’t dead yet, in spite of the iPad’s success, so there’s room for new products. One of them could be the flexible e-reader concept, shown below and created by Dragan Trencevski. Dubbed the eRoll, this device reminds us of a very sexy
PSP concept we’ve seen a while back.

eRoll uses a rollable flexible screen and it can be turned from an average e-reader to a baton. Gone are the rigid displays and fragile devices we had to carry around in order to read while commuting.
Let’s just hope that this baton comes with connectivity options and maybe Internet connectivity, else the iPad is still a better alternative.

Flexible touch displays are fashionable now, as shown by the Mobile Script concept phone pictured below. This phone/laptop packs a small front touch display, plus a larger screen on the inside of the handset. The latter can be pulled out and become an even larger display, turning the device into some sort of mini laptop.
LATER EDIT: As pointed out by one of our commenters, we have written about this device before, over here. Yes, we’re human and we do forget…

A virtual QWERTY keyboard will be displayed and I’m pretty sure that the web browsing experience will be neat. Saying that the larger display is a flexible screen is a lucky guess, but it seems very likely, considering the current design trends.
Also, keep in mind that the Mobile Script concept device uses a nano material, covering it and turning solar energy into “juice” that powers the phone.

Wilson Song created a pretty cool concept phone, Samsung WM, a stylish watch mobile combo, that’s also got the features of a
portable console. You can wear the device on your wrist and play games with the aid of its embedded technologies, like motion sensing and a “bend interface”.

Samsung WM comes with a flexible wide display, earphones, a stylus and games that rely on motion capture technology. There’s also a camera on board, at the back side of the device and this phone is cool enough for both women and men to wear on their wrists.

One of the designers we have come to know and appreciate,
Liam Quinn has just sent us a few renders of his brand new concept watch phones. Although the devices don’t have names yet, we know that Liam created 3 models: a low end unit that slides around the wrist, a mid end watch phone and a high end handset.

All of these concept handsets run a version of the LG watch phone OS and they incorporate a touch keypad, front facing camera and a flexible AMOLED touchscreen display. iChat is installed on the three devices and you should also know that they’re made out of a flexible, rubberised material, that can flatten itself or warp its body, delivering messages, phone calls or alerts.
The watch phones pictured in this article support induction charging and syncing, plus they all use Bluetooth technology for headsets and other connection. We’ll be back soon with another one of Liam’s projects, the ORB OS, a pretty interesting idea of an operating system and interface.

[Thanks Liam]

What you can see below is the concept phone created by John Kwan, a design that reminds me of a certain
Nokia fan concept. This time, we’re dealing with a flexible phone that folds on an axis and looks like a small fan with flaps that open up on each side.

The above-mentioned flaps open up and create a display, that seems to be touch-based and there seems to be a navigational section at the centre side of the device. Could the round mechanism at the upper part of the phone be a camera? If so, does it have the megapixel count to impress us? What do you say?

3D images,
holograms, tiny embedded projectors… this is what we get to see on the latest concept phones, that have gone way past the idea of a normal display or a touchscreen. Ilya Tkach created a neat concept phone, known as Ku! that uses a giant flexible OLED screen that can produce buttons and wipers by passing an electric current through the display.

The Ku! phone forms keys on the surface of the handset for particular apps and also supports feedback according to the user’s presses, imitating the analog control solutions. The OLED display is also an energy-saving one and the phone is quite ergonomic and comfortable to use.
At the back of the Ku! there’s a stand, used to place the device as an alarm clock, photo frame, even OLED lamp, if you want to be really fancy.
