Flexible displays are all the rage, when it comes to concept phone technology, but what about real life gadgets? We’re content with dreaming for now, as we’ve yet to see a commercially available product of this kind, but we hope that handsets like the Mobile Script Phone, pictured below will make it into production.

Created by Aleksandr Mukomelov, this concept phone comes with 2 touchscreens, one of them a traditional screen and the other a flexible OLED display that gets stiff once electric current passes through it. You’ll be able to use the second screen as a scroll, in order to increase the display the potential of the device, while viewing movies or editing documents/browsing the web.
The handset is also revolutionary when it comes to charging, since it uses a photo sensitive nano material, covering the device and charging via sun light, that gets turned into energy. A superb phone design and great features! Great work!

We’ve shown you all of the PSP 2 and
PSP Phone concepts we could come up with, but still there are more to droll upon. The latest concept
PSP 2 was designed by Tai Chiem and it’s a flexible OLED-based device that can be rolled. In case this flexibility bothers you, keep in mind that the display will become more rigid under the influence of an electric charge.

This device also features stereo speakers (on either side), also used as a jog wheel and camera control. Gaming will be done via two joysticks, a feature we’ve been looking forward for years. Is this a Sony-branded dream or just a device hidden in the company’s vaults, that will hit the market in 2013?

BloodRabbit, a
Product Design Forums user has a Nokia-branded treat for us, a device that features a new display concept that shifts its shape. The ShapeShift project relies on the same idea used to freeze ice cubes: they imitate the shape of the environment that surrounds them.

Nokia ShapeShift comes with a preset form made out of 2 plastic layers, that’ll replace the standard pixel-based screen. One of these layers is a flexible one, while the second is a hard material and between the two there’s some sort of special liquid. This will have the same refraction as the layers.
Moving the liquid around between the layers creates button shapes on the surface of the display, allowing the user to interact with the handset. The cellphone measures 11 x 5,5 x 1,2 cm and weighs 125 grams, while the display is a 4 inch unit.
