Samsung has already launched the Beat DJ phone, allowing its users to mix music, so there’s a pretty decent public segment out there made out of people who want to create and mix music on the go. Such folks would be tempted to use the fresh Motorola KRE8 concept phone, created by designer Jose Tomas DeLuna.
KRE8 is able to split into 2 segments and it packs accelerometers and sensors, that detect the user’s gestures and turn them into commands. The device operates in 3 modes: Instrument Mode (guitar, violin, drums), Mix Mode and Record Mode, each of them based on your gestures.
The resulting output can be recorded as MIDI Signal and shared via 3G connectivity, also allowing other people to jam with you. Motorola KRE8 features a glass touchscreen, music editing apps, tagging audio content via GPS and musical social networking. There’s also a great video below, showing the device in action.

For me, this concept phone looks like a “mirror, mirror on the wall”, that seems quite difficult to handle and get a grip of. Of course, it packs a touchscreen, a camera at the back and probably an intuitive interface.

This surely doesn’t look like something that Moto would pull out of their hats this Christmas, specially with all that Android hype. However, we’ve got to admit that the design is quite intriguing and that its creator, Iulius Lucaci did a terrific job.
Turns out that this rugged Motorola phone also features GPS and probably an electronic compass, considering the markings on the side of the screen.

I stumbled upon Joseph Liang’s concept just when I was starting to believe that Motorola has no surprise for the mobile industry any more. Well, they don’t, for now, but if they plan on manufacturing this handset, things might get better for them in 2009.
First of all, this Moto concept is cute and its bright green backlight present on the navigational mechanism reminds me of the trademark Xbox 360 green.
The screen is a tad small, but that didn’t seem to bother anyone when Moto Aura was first spotted. Also, notice how the device can get smaller, by inserting its lower half in the upper part of the handset. No numeric keypad is present, so I guess this is more of a music phone, though I can see 9 dots on the nav pad, so they might be used as numeric keys…
All in all, this is a great looking device, that would be a bold move from Moto, an instant hit in Asia and a definite keeper for tweens.

Phones have gone from devices that make and receive calls to handsets that must feature a camera, most of the modern types of connectivity, some serious media playing potential a many gigs of memory.
Motorola Twirl is one of those concept phones that can be used for more than just calling, as it’s your mobile wallet, allowing you to pay bills, but also your car key, opening the door for you, when you had one too many beers.
The concept was created by Tom Riddle and, as you can see in the picture this is a three-faceted device that reminds me of a couple of leaves. Moto Twirl can also be attached to your steering wheel in order to start the car and some of you gamers might notice that the layout of the concept phone’s keypad resembles the one of a joystick.

I received an email just the other day, that had a beautiful concept design attached: the Motorola Briq. No details at all about it, but there was a name at the end of the email, Piotr Paczkowski, who is, I suspect, the designer of the handset. We’re dealing with a dual sliding beauty, with a very, very strange keypad, a diagonal numeric one on the right and a half QWERTY on the left.
UPDATE: The creator of the phone above sent me a list of its spec. Here it is:
- dual slider with two independent keyboards
- EDGE/HSDPA/UMTS/GSM
- touchscreen (1:2 or 2:1)
- 256 MB RAM and 256 MB ROM
- CPU 450 MHz
- internal memory 8GB and microSDHC
- WiFi
- Bluetooth
- GPS
- 3,2 mpx camera with autofocus
- Windows Mobile 6, with free update to Windows Mobile 7
As far as I can see, this is a touchscreen device that comes with a decent looking headset and a tiny remote with music controls. Oh, I forgot to mention that there was also a link the email, which pointed me towards the following picture.

While HTC’s officially announcing three new Touch handsets, we’ve stumbled upon yet another concept version of the Motorola Z12. It was created by the same Flickr user as before, kizazzz, but this time we get to see its interface and check out a few specs.
We’re dealing with a 50 mm wide device, in its top section and 45 in the bottom section, while the depth goes from the 3 mm at the top to the 7 mm at the bottom and 10 mm, when the handset’s closed. The Motorola Eclipse weighs 118 grams and comes with a high quality tempered glass front and brushed aluminium back plate.
The camera’s got the same 5 megapixel sensor as before, plus the Xenon flash, while the device uses the revolutionary Orb interface (heard of it?). Also, the rest of the specs are pretty predictable: 8 gigs of internal memory, 3G, WiFi and multimedia features. We want a video of the device, please?

Last time I heard rumors about the Motorola Z12, the handset was divided into two parts, the bottom one being touch sensitive. Also, thanks to a teaser we found out that the Z12 would come with a 16M colour VGA resolution 2.8″ display and a 5 megapixel camera. Well, at least the camera is still there in this concept design created by Kizazzz.
The camera also features a Xenon Flash and what puzzles me is the “Coming Soon” promise on the pic of the phone. Is the real handset coming soon or a better concept design?

We’ve met this Motorola concept phone a couple of months ago and saw it in the hand of David Beckham, at least in theory. Check out this article for its list of specs and check out the following pic for a fresh image of the device designed by Ravefolk from the Motorolafans forum.

Does anyone want to reinvent the flip phone? Ravefolk, Motorolafans forums user claims that he does and shows the world his creation: Motorola Motofashion X3, the start of a new series of fashion phones, as the designer claims. The Linux-based handset is a weird combination between original design and mid-range features, but its ergonomics are pretty bad for a fashion phone…
Well, for starters, the screen is too small and the keypad is very uncomfortable to use, not to mention the whole flip phone mechanism that’s pretty much useless, since you can use 90% of the phone’s features right away, without flipping it open. Here’s the list of Motofashion X3′s features anyway:
- OLED high-def display, 262k colours, 220 x 768 pixels resolution
- 2.0 megapixel camera with macro, 8x zoom and flash
- video recording in MP4 format
- Mototunes media player
- FM Stereo Radio with RDS
- Picsel document viewer
- Bluetooth 1.2 with AD2P
- Flight mode
- Linux-based UI with Flash-based interface
- 7 direct shortcuts via numeric buttons
