It’s been a while since we last saw a
Nokia concept phone, although the Nokia E900 design looks more like an Internet tablet than a handset. The device comes with uber specs and it finally combines the business aspect of the E Series with a QWERTY keyboard and huge touchscreen display.
Nokia E900 supports 3G/HSDPA connectivity, plus WLAN, Bluetooth 2.1 and GPS and, as you can see it packs a pretty big display, a 4.5 inch WVGA touchscreen. 32GB of internal memory will be more than enough, coupled with a microSD memory card slot, plus there’s a battery on board providing up to 8 hours of talk time.
An optical pad is also among the specs, plus a 5 megapixel camera with a Carl Zeiss lens and aluminium casing at the exterior of the device. Maemo 5 is the OS of choice for E900 and the handset also supports Ovi integration, Microsoft Exchange, Firefox 3.5, Adobe Flash 9, Skype video calls and more.

Simplicity is the new complexity… at least in the world of gadgets, handsets and portable devices. Adhering to this trend there’s also a Nokia concept handset, the 03-Phone that mimics an armadillo and features the simplest of functions. It was created by Jonathan C. Smith.
03 packs a basic interface, buttons with tactile and audio feedback, a jog wheel that can be squeezed to fit the device in your pocket and… that’s about it. You’ll have to open the handset in order to make a call, but back to the design, I have to say that this is not quite an impressive device, although its simplicity can be admired.

The sci fi side of this concept phone can be found in its looks, resembling some hovercraft of the future, while the mythological part is the name, Nibiru (celestial object in the Babylonian culture/planet Jupiter). Created by
Andy Kurovets, the superb handset comes with a touchscreen and an 8 megapixel camera.
There’s an MP3 player on the side of the phone, or should I say its audio controls, allowing the user to change tracks without getting the phone out of the pocket. On the opposite side of the Nibiru concept phone you’ll find the audio system and the specs list of the device also includes a touchpad, that’s ideal for web surfing.
The curved edges serve as a screen protector and the device comes with a mobile battery and a navi key beneath the large touchscreen. Could this be a Nokia concept phone of the future?

Nokia’s more
eco friendly than ever and this trend is also followed by designers who like to create concept phones bearing the Finnish company’s brand. This is also the case of Luis Barceló, the creator of Nokia Ink 01, a very neat phone pictured below.
Nokia Ink 01 is made from recycled aluminium, it packs an ultra low power E-ink display and it’s very easy to disassemble. The percentage of recyclable materials in it is pretty high, as it aims to protect the environment and we all know that aluminium can be recycled almost endlessly. Instead of the standard mechanical keys, Nokia Ink 01 comes with a capacitive sensor, so there are less separate parts to use.
There’s also a mini OLED display on board, allowing the users to view the photographs they take with the aid of the incorporated camera. The handset uses a silver-zinc battery, instead of the Li-Ion standard unit, and this type of battery is 95% recyclable and it generates 40% more energy density.

Here’s a pretty good looking
Nokia N Series concept phone, created by Jared Thompson, who wanted to illustrate 3 varying viewpoints from all around the phone. The designer claims that this concept comes with the current N series keypad and it should appeal to business customers, who own a BlackBerry and would like to switch to a Nokia device.
This device would be equally great if it was a dual slider, or if it had a touchscreen display, plus the above-mentioned keyboard, but we’ll let the designers decide. What do you think?

Fabien Nauroy has a beautiful concept to show us all,
Nokia E97, inspired by paper mail. “Where’s the inspiration?” you might ask. Well, the screen of this handset can be detached from its body, just like taking a paper out of an envelope.
The concept phone’s screen is based on E-ink technology and it’ll be very easy to share with your friends. If you want to show everyone a cool video or a photo, you can simply detach the display and show the content, without having to worry about storage space, because the screen uses a 4 or 8GB memory stick to store data just like an USB Flash drive.
Nokia E97′s screen can also be used like a photo frame on your desk, once it’s connected to the small USB base. This is probably the best Nokia concept I’ve seen in years, so congratulations Fabien for such a great idea!

Beatmag from Mobile-Review designed a very promising
Nokia gaming phone, that strays away from the N-Gage series and looks more like an Internet tablet. Notice the presence of a touchscreen (3.2 or 3.3 inches, 16:9) on the specs list, plus a QWERTY keypad, action buttons (X, Y) and a directional pad.
What’s the deal with that old-school game on the screen? I guess it’s an emulated title of some sort, since the graphics are so last-gen, but the concept device is pretty promising, although it’s a bit too big for our taste.

Nokia N95 8GB is the ultimate smartphone, as it’s got everything one can dream of, except a touchscreen… Not that it misses it too much, but there are a couple of forward-thinking folks out there who imagined the device featuring such a display. Known as beatmag, the designer of
Nokia N95 8GB Touch concept did a terrific job, by improving a handset that’s already great.

It’s been a while since I’ve seen such a good-looking
Nokia concept phone! And now, we’ve got Nokia 5900 Monoir on our hands, courtesy of designer András Nemes, who envisioned this device. The new Nokia handset packs a 3.5 inch touchscreen TFT LCD (16:9; 260 x 640 pixels) and uses Symbian S60 5th Edition.
Under the case you’ll find an ARM 11 369 MHz CPU, 1GB of SDRAM memory and a GPS receiver. Nokia 5900 Monoir also features a 5 megapixel camera with autofocus, dual LED flash and VGA video recording (30 fps), plus WiFi, dual band 3G with HSDPA and quad band GSM support.
Nokia Maps 2.0 Touch is also on board and the device incorporates a microSD slot, TV out, FM radio with RDS, Bluetooth and USB 2.0. 5900 Monoir ships with an 8GB card, uses a 3.5mm audio jack, provides excellent audio quality via Dolby Mobile and uses a proximity sensor in order to turn the screen on and off automatically.
The handset’s QWERTY keyboard is an on-screen landscape virtual one and as far as gaming is concerned, you’ll be using an accelerometer sensor for automatic UI rotation and motion-based games. The specs list of the superb Nokia 5900 Monoir ends with an Office document viewer and OVI, MySpace integration.

Nokia Strapup is the ideal tool for party people and it’s not quite a phone, in the proper meaning of the word. The bracelet-shaped device sends predefined messages to your friends, which are triggered by your movements, while dancing. No typing, no fuss… Just dance and your friends will find out where you are and what’re you doing, having a good time that is.
Nokia claims that it doesn’t plan to manufacture this bracelet phone too soon…
