PSP 2.0 Is Going to be a Touchscreen Console/Phone

Sony has apparently filed for a touchscreen PSP patent, or so the word goes round, but no official confirmation till now. We’re dealing with leaked info from the patent office, that mentions a “digital tactile pixels” system used in a phone, media player, web browsing/e-mail device and navigation system.

Sure sounds like a PSP Phone to me, but a touchscreen PSP is just as good.

PSP Phone Patent Goes iPhone

After seeing dozens of PSP Phone concepts, we finally stumbled upon a patent of the device, only to be surprised by how much it resembles the original iPhone patent. Sony’s patent application is called “Orientation based multiple mode mechanically vibrated touchscreen display“, which pretty much defines what you can see below.

We could be dealing with a special Sony Ericsson handset, featuring a touchscreen display, accelerometer (or some sort of orientation system) and haptics feedback. However, before comparing this device to the iPhone, we should be taking into account the fact that Sony filed this patent application on August 30, 2006, months before the launch of Apple’s device.

Does this look like a plausible PSP Phone to you? For me it spells “Nintendo DS” a bit, but that may be my usual copycat paranoia.

Sony Magazine Announces the PSP Phone?!

You do not have to believe this rumor! However, all of us PSP fans can’t simply ignore such a piece of information. SEfanatics brings out the news, showing a page from Sony Magazine, which announces a “PSP-Style Phone” for February. February what? Maybe 2009 or even 2010. It seems that it will even hit the shops, as early as, well this month, unless we’ve got the year all wrong. Where’s the official launch? The teasing? The party? The tech show? That’s surely an indicator that we’ll see a PSP Phone at next year-s Mobile World Congress and maybe it will be launched a year from now. Just maybe…

PSP Goes iPhone in a Neat Concept Design

Since Sony have already started posting job ads for some mysterious console to come, we might as well speculate, that the console above is a PSP 2. I’ve spotted this conceptual beauty and realized that it resembles a tad the good old iPhone, but I’m still wondering if that’s a touchscreen sliding in there. The classic button layout is here, with an extra analog pad and the L an R buttons probably on the side of the device. Notice how slim and wide the console is? Inspired by Nintendo DS, are we?

PSP Phone Coming From Sony Ericsson?!

Just spotted this pic right here on techdigest.tv and was wondering about the possibility of getting the PSP Phone, courtesy of Sony Ericsson, instead of the good old Sony (main company). Also, I’m quite puzzled to see that this concept features a 2.0 MP camera. I guess they would be able to include at least a 5 MP one. With the recent Skype update of the PSP, who needs a phone any more?
