The iPhone 20 Pro may trade the Dynamic Island for a smaller pill cutout

Apple could give its 20th-anniversary iPhone lineup a major display redesign. According to Digital Chat Station, the iPhone 20 Pro and Pro Max are being tested with screens that curve subtly along all four edges and use a smaller pill-shaped selfie camera cutout instead of the current Dynamic Island.

The iPhone 20 Pro reportedly has a 6.41-inch display with a 2686 × 1236 resolution, while the Pro Max could feature a 6.96-inch panel at 2912 × 1340. The phones may not be much larger than current models, as Apple could gain the extra screen space by reducing the bezels and extending the display toward the frame.

Samsung is reportedly helping Apple develop the panels, while Samsung Display and LG Display are working to reduce brightness loss around the curved edges. Apple is also experimenting with removing the traditional polarizer, which could allow for a thinner and more efficient display assembly.

The smaller cutout suggests that some Face ID components may move beneath the screen, although earlier reports claimed Apple wanted to hide both Face ID and the selfie camera completely. These are still early prototypes, and Apple has plenty of time to change course before the expected September 2027 launch.
