The iPhone SE 2 has been in the rumors for years now, but lately it’s been converted to the iPhone 9, name-wise. Now we also get competent renders for it from iGeeksblog and @OnLeaks, breaking down all the mystery, if there ever was such a thing.
Expected to debut this Spring, around March, the iPhone 9 takes this name because it combines the iPhone 8 design with iPhone XR camera and iPhone 11 processor. It’s got the 4.7 inch screen, Home button with Touch ID and a glass and metal body. The dimensions discovered by @OnLeaks are 138.5 x 67.4 x 7.8 mm, with the waistline going to 8.6 mm with the camera bump. Interestingly, the 2020 iPhone 9 is quite thicker than the iPhone 8 2017 model, which was 7.8 mm thick.
We also expect a Frosted Glass Back and wireless charging. The screen should be a notchless LCD and the battery should be similar to the iPhone 8, maybe with a bump or two. There’s also the rumored price tag of $399 and the other rumor about an iPhone 9 Plus, with a 5.1 inch screen and better specs, maybe a dual camera. Apple has been long rumored to debut 5 new iPhones this year, even though it’s more likely we’ll see a 5G iPhone 12 as an extra to the 4G models…
I can’t say I’m surprised by the iPhone 9 looks, but I’m not sure how many people want a phone with a diagonal below 5 inches nowadays. I mean it’s comfy and all, but gaming and videos on it will be a bit… off. I wonder if it has 3D Touch or not and if the selfie camera is a 12 MP or 7 MP shooter.
