iPhone Air 2 Gets Its Most Detailed Concept Yet, May Replace iPhone 18

After being rumored as everything from Apple’s next big hit to a canceled project, the iPhone Air 2 is back in the spotlight. Reports over the past few weeks suggest that Apple hasn’t abandoned its ultra-thin smartphone after all, despite the original iPhone Air reportedly falling short of the company’s sales expectations. Samsung’s competing Galaxy S25 Edge is also believed to be ending its journey without a direct successor, making Apple’s renewed interest in the Air lineup even more surprising.

Now, YouTuber Jon Prosser has turned the latest rumors into an impressive set of high-quality renders and an eight-minute concept video, offering what may be the most realistic look yet at Apple’s next ultra-thin iPhone. According to current leaks, the iPhone Air 2 is expected to debut in early 2027 alongside the standard iPhone 18 and the more affordable iPhone 18e.

The biggest visual change is found on the back. While the first iPhone Air featured a single rear camera, the new model is expected to adopt a dual-camera system, matching recent claims from Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman. The second sensor is said to be a 48 MP ultrawide camera, giving the Air series much more photographic versatility. Interestingly, Prosser believes this camera layout will be identical to the one Apple is preparing for its upcoming iPhone Fold (or iPhone Ultra), expected later this year.

Beyond the camera upgrades, the iPhone Air 2 reportedly remains incredibly slim at just 5.6 mm thick, making it one of the thinnest smartphones Apple has ever produced. Despite recent rumors that the iPhone 18 Pro models could move away from titanium, the Air 2 is still expected to feature a titanium frame, helping maintain rigidity without adding excessive weight. Battery capacity is also rumored to increase, addressing one of the biggest concerns surrounding ultra-thin smartphones.

Performance should receive a substantial leap as well. The device is expected to be powered by Apple’s upcoming 2 nm A20 Pro chipset, the same processor reportedly reserved for the iPhone Ultra and iPhone 18 Pro lineup. On the front, Apple may also reduce the size of the Dynamic Island, resulting in a smaller Face ID cutout and a cleaner display.

Color options are also getting an upgrade. Alongside traditional Black and White finishes, Apple is rumored to introduce a Gold variant, as well as a new Lavender color that would add a splash of personality to a lineup that previously leaned toward more conservative finishes.

Perhaps the boldest part of Jon Prosser’s theory has nothing to do with hardware. He suggests that the iPhone Air 2 could eventually replace the standard iPhone altogether, becoming Apple’s default mainstream flagship instead of remaining a niche ultra-thin model.
