Huawei Mate 70 Air — Can We Stop It With the iPhone Air Copycats?

The leaked images of Huawei’s upcoming Mate 70 Air suggest a phone that prioritizes thinness and continuity within the Mate lineup. The design stays close to the Mate 70 series identity, featuring a large circular XMAGE camera module framed by a metallic ring, but the overall body appears noticeably slimmer and flatter. The question is: do we really want ultraslim phones?

The back panel shows a brushed or fabric-like texture, similar to the Mate 70 Pro+, which may improve grip while avoiding reflections. The frame seems metallic, with softened corners and a smooth transition between the back and the display — a subtle refinement rather than a redesign. The phone’s proportions indicate Huawei’s focus on making the device lighter without radically altering the Mate silhouette.

Leaked specifications point to a 6.9-inch quad-curved OLED display with 1.5K resolution and a body measuring just over 6mm thick, placing it among the slimmest current flagships. It reportedly includes 16GB of RAM, HarmonyOS 5.1, and a 1/1.3-inch main sensor, aligning it more with upper mid-range hardware than ultra-premium models.

Color options shown in the leaked poster — silver, green, white, and black — reinforce the restrained aesthetic seen in recent Huawei devices. While some design cues echo earlier Mate phones, the thinner frame and textured surface mark an incremental evolution rather than a shift in direction.

I don’t get this trend: I’d trade a slim waistline for a larger battery any day.
