Another iPhone Air Copycat? Moto Tries It Too: Moto X70 Air Teased

Motorola is preparing to introduce a new addition to its lineup, the Moto X70 Air, scheduled for release in China by the end of October. The company has released its first official teaser, and as the name implies, the focus is on thinness, lightness, and AI integration. I have to ask: another iPhone Air rival!?

The teaser poster showcases the Moto X70 Air in profile, drawing attention to just how slim the device is. We can clearly see the right edge housing the volume rocker and power button, while the rear camera island protrudes slightly with at least two visible lenses. Motorola is also leaning heavily into AI as a selling point, with the tagline referencing an “AI-driven Air experience.”

The timing of this announcement is interesting, given that Apple’s iPhone 17 Air has been making headlines for its impossibly slim 5.6mm body, lightweight 165g frame, and the removal of the SIM slot for design efficiency. With Moto stepping into “Air” branding territory, it’s hard not to draw comparisons—or wonder if Motorola is positioning this as its counterpoint to Apple’s latest design experiment.

What we don’t yet know are the exact dimensions or weight of the Moto X70 Air. Still, the visuals suggest an aggressively slim body, with the dual-camera array emerging as one of the few points of thickness. This makes it an intriguing play in a market where ultra-thin design usually comes at the expense of battery size or thermal efficiency.

Interestingly, another Motorola device—model number XT2533-4—recently surfaced on China’s TENAA certification site. That phone featured a 6.72-inch 1.5K LCD, a 2.4GHz processor, up to 16GB of RAM, 512GB of storage, and a massive 7,000mAh battery. However, that device also weighed in at 210 grams and measured 8.7mm thick, a stark contrast to the teased X70 Air silhouette. Speculation suggests it could belong to the Moto G36 5G family instead, separating it from Motorola’s ultra-thin ambitions for the Air model.

For now, the Moto X70 Air remains a mystery wrapped in a slim aluminum frame.
