Norwegian startup Aeros is taking a very different approach to smartphones. Instead of chasing bigger displays and more screen time, the company wants to build an ultra-compact Android phone that encourages users to spend less time scrolling and more time living.
The concept device features a 4.4-inch display, making it significantly smaller than today’s mainstream smartphones. According to founder Tor Oveland Vimme, the company’s philosophy is simple: “Less screen, more life.” Rather than relying on screen-time limits or app blockers, Aeros believes a physically smaller phone naturally reduces distractions while still offering essentials like messaging, maps, contactless payments and a camera.
This isn’t the startup’s first attempt. Earlier this year, Aeros launched the Juno, a lightweight 4-inch Android phone running its custom Aeros One UI, with the first batch selling out in Norway.
The new device, however, is still just a concept. Aeros is seeking crowdfunding to design and manufacture the phone from scratch, with reservations remaining fully refundable until production is fully funded.
While there’s no guarantee the project will reach the market, it highlights a growing demand for compact smartphones that prioritise digital wellbeing over endless content consumption.
