Tecno is once again turning heads with a bold smartphone concept. Ahead of IFA 2026 in Berlin, the company has officially teased its Next-Gen Borderless Concept Phone, a prototype that pushes the idea of edge-to-edge displays further than we’ve seen before. According to Tecno, the device features true 0mm display bezels, creating the illusion that the entire front of the phone is nothing but screen.
While manufacturers have spent years shrinking bezels to just a few millimeters, completely eliminating the visible black border has remained one of the industry’s biggest design challenges. Tecno claims it has solved that problem through a combination of advanced internal component stacking, new display packaging techniques, and structural re-engineering. The company hasn’t revealed the exact engineering behind the breakthrough yet, promising to share more technical details when the concept is showcased at IFA this September.
Official renders and promotional videos show a handset with virtually no visible border surrounding the display, making even today’s flagship smartphones appear dated by comparison. Tecno even published comparison images placing the concept next to Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro, where the difference in bezel thickness is obvious. Despite the futuristic look, the prototype still includes a centered hole-punch cutout for the selfie camera, meaning under-display camera technology isn’t part of this concept—at least not yet.
The achievement likely relies on highly flexible OLED panels capable of bending much further beneath the phone’s frame than current commercial implementations. If that proves to be the case, manufacturing complexity and production costs could become significant hurdles before the technology reaches mass-market devices. Durability and repairability are also expected to be major engineering challenges for a design with virtually no protective border around the display.
As with many Tecno concepts shown over the years, there’s no guarantee this particular design will make it into a retail product anytime soon. However, the company hints that its 0mm bezel technology could eventually appear in future smartphones, suggesting this is more than just a one-off design exercise.
