Sony’s next flagship phone, the Xperia 1 VII, is starting to take shape—and if recent leaks are anything to go by, it might just be one of the most feature-complete Android phones of 2025.
Shared by XpertPick in collaboration with trusted leaker OnLeaks, a set of high-resolution 5K CAD renders and a 360-degree video reveal a familiar, understated design with a few meaningful upgrades. The Xperia 1 VII measures roughly 161.9 x 74.5 x 8.5mm, slightly thicker and wider than its predecessor, the Xperia 1 VI. At its thickest point—the rear camera bump—the device hits 11mm.
Like previous models in the Xperia line, the 1 VII sticks with a 6.5-inch OLED display featuring noticeable top and bottom bezels. That upper bezel houses a front-facing camera, avoiding the punch-hole trend. It’s a design decision that may not please everyone, but it continues to offer a symmetrical, distraction-free screen experience.
The right side of the phone features a power button with a built-in fingerprint sensor, volume rocker, and Sony’s signature dedicated shutter button. The left side is clean. Down below, there’s a hybrid SIM tray with microSD support, a USB-C port, and a microphone. Up top? A 3.5mm headphone jack—yes, still—and a second mic. Audiophiles will also appreciate the dual front-facing stereo speakers, a rarity in modern flagship devices.
Around the back, Sony is sticking with its tried-and-true triple camera layout, including a periscope-style telephoto lens. Additional cutouts suggest the inclusion of laser autofocus, an LED flash, and potentially extra microphones.
What to expect under the hood
Specs-wise, rumors suggest the Xperia 1 VII will come equipped with Qualcomm’s top-tier Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset, paired with 12GB or 16GB of RAM and 256GB or 512GB of storage. Powering the package is expected to be a 5,000mAh+ battery with 30W fast charging. Out of the box, it’ll run Android 15.
The display is said to support 4K resolution, a 19.5:9 aspect ratio, and a 120Hz refresh rate—a spec sheet that remains distinctly Sony. On the imaging front, we’re looking at a 48MP main camera with OIS, a 12MP ultra-wide, and a 12MP periscope telephoto with an impressive 70–200mm focal range. The front camera reportedly lands at 12MP.
Launch timing and pricing
Sony is expected to officially unveil the Xperia 1 VII in May 2025, with a rumored starting price of $1,399. That’s premium pricing—but for fans of Sony’s no-compromise hardware approach, it might be worth it.
