The upcoming Sony Xperia 1 VIII has already surfaced in earlier renders and preliminary specs, but details around the camera setup have remained relatively limited. A new batch of leaked renders now offers the clearest look yet at the phone’s front design and settles one of the bigger questions surrounding the device: the selfie camera placement.
Early speculation suggested Sony might finally move to a punch-hole camera cutout after years of keeping the front camera housed in the top bezel. That doesn’t appear to be the case. Based on the latest renders, the Xperia 1 VIII keeps the selfie camera above the screen, continuing Sony’s long-standing approach of avoiding notches and display cutouts.
The images come from known leaker @OnLeaks, whose CAD-based leaks have a strong track record. They also suggest a slightly narrower body compared to some earlier renders. On the back, the phone features a squared camera module that sits lower on the chassis than expected, with a look that may remind some users of recent Motorola devices.
Sony appears to be retaining the flat-edged frame seen on the Xperia 1 VII. The phone is expected to feature a 6.5-inch OLED display, while leaked dimensions point to a size of 161.9 x 74.4 x 8.58 mm. That would make it broadly similar to its predecessor, though slightly thicker and wider overall.
The rear camera bump reportedly pushes thickness to 11.37 mm at its thickest point, roughly 2 mm more than the Xperia 1 VII. According to the leak, Sony plans to use larger image sensors this year, including a telephoto sensor said to fall somewhere between 1/3-inch and 1/2-inch in size.
Other rumored specs include the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, 12GB or 16GB of RAM, and a triple rear camera system built around three 48MP sensors.
Sony is also expected to keep two increasingly rare features: a 3.5mm headphone jack and microSD card slot, additions that continue to appeal to longtime Xperia users.
