We’ve been hearing so much about the Sony Xperia XA3 and Xperia XA3 Ultra lately, but nothing about the Sony Xperia XZ4. MySmartPrice and @OnLeaks are here to remedy that, by unveiling the first renders of the future flagship.

Sony seems to move away from the curved OLED of the XZ3 and the curved overall design, towards a flatter look. This time the top and bottom bezels of the screen grow a bit and there’s a protruding triple back camera. The device is rather narrow and very rectangular, a throwback perhaps to the days of the Xperia Z models. This smartphone is expected to debut in Barcelona, at MWC 2019.

The device is said to keep the same 21:9 aspect ratio as the Xperia XZ3, but it bumps the diagonal up to a crazy 6.5 inches. That sounds like it’s meant to rival the iPhone XS Max. At least Sony stays away from the notch, so that’s a big plus. The Xperia XZ4 measures 166.9 x 72.4 x 8.2 mm, but the waistline can even go to 9 mm with camera bump. The three back cameras probably include a wide angle shooter, ultra wide angle and either depth camera or tele unit for zoom.

Sony keeps it modest upfront with a singular selfie camera. The fingerprint reader is either embedded within the Power button or within the screen, that hasn’t been made clear. No love for an audio jack. Overall, the Xperia XZ4 feels like a step back from the XZ3 and Sony keeps its tradition of being inconsistent. I wonder if the camera will be any good, since I found the XZ3 one inferior to the XZ2 one.
