Apple’s long-rumored foldable iPhone has surfaced again, this time in a new set of CAD-based renders shared by Sonny Dickson. While the company has yet to confirm the project publicly, the updated images provide another look at what could become Apple’s first foldable smartphone.
According to the renders, the device — often referred to as iPhone Fold — follows a book-style folding design similar to early foldables in the market. However, the proportions suggest Apple is leaning toward usability rather than the tall, narrow cover displays seen on many current foldable phones.
The outer screen is rumored to measure 5.5 inches and appears noticeably wider than most foldable cover displays. The panel features a centered punch-hole camera and is expected to use a 4:3 aspect ratio, which could make everyday tasks such as messaging, browsing, and navigation more comfortable without needing to open the device.
This layout echoes the design philosophy of Google’s first Pixel Fold, where the cover display functions more like a traditional smartphone screen rather than a narrow secondary panel.
On the back, the renders show a compact camera plateau housing two sensors and an LED flash. Current rumors suggest Apple may equip the device with two 48MP cameras, though final specifications remain unconfirmed.
Opening the device reveals the main folding screen, which is rumored to measure 7.8 inches. The display appears almost square in the renders, maintaining the same 4:3 aspect ratio. This format could position the foldable iPhone closer to a mini tablet experience when unfolded.
The inner panel is also said to feature a punch-hole selfie camera positioned in the top-left corner. Reports suggest both front-facing cameras — on the inner and outer displays — may use 18MP sensors.
While the crease is visible in the CAD model, leaks indicate Apple is aiming to minimize it rather than eliminate it entirely, which aligns with current engineering limitations across the foldable industry.
One of the most interesting rumored components is the hinge mechanism. The foldable iPhone is expected to use a liquid metal hinge, a material known for its durability and resistance to deformation. Combined with a titanium frame, this approach could help Apple reduce weight while maintaining structural rigidity.
Battery capacity is rumored to reach 5,500 mAh, which would be relatively large for an iPhone and necessary to power two displays.
If current reports prove accurate, the foldable iPhone could debut alongside the iPhone 18 Pro lineup later in 2026. Pricing is expected to start above $2,000, potentially making it the most expensive iPhone Apple has ever released.
For now, the device remains firmly in rumor territory. But with multiple CAD leaks surfacing months ahead of Apple’s usual launch window, the company’s first foldable phone appears to be moving closer to reality.
