Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 leaks in early CAD renders; What’s New?

The next evolution of Samsung’s book-style foldable is starting to take shape well ahead of its presumed July debut. Fresh CAD-based renders, credited to Android Headlines and OnLeaks, offer a clean preview of what appears to be the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8, not exactly a departure from the design of the Fold 7.

At first glance, the device doesn’t scream “new.” The silhouette remains familiar: flat edges, a minimalist rear panel, and the now-signature vertical triple camera stack. If you look closer you’ll notice subtle adjustments in proportions. The Fold 8 is said to measure around 9mm when folded and 4.5mm when open—slightly thicker than its predecessor. The difference is negligible.

That marginal increase in thickness could be doing a lot of heavy lifting. One theory points to the possible return or deeper integration of the S Pen, a feature that has hovered around the Fold series without ever fully settling into a seamless, built-in experience. Another, more grounded explanation is battery.

Rumors suggest Samsung is stepping up to a 5,000mAh cell—finally crossing a psychological threshold that Fold users have been waiting for. Compared to the 4,400mAh unit in the Z Fold 7, this isn’t just a spec bump; it’s a usability upgrade. By the way the Honor Magic V6 provides a 6660 mAh battery.

Charging is also expected to get a long-overdue upgrade, jumping from 25W to 45W wired speeds. It’s not industry-leading, but it closes the gap enough to matter in daily use.

While the main 200MP sensor and the 10MP 3x telephoto are expected to carry over, the ultrawide camera could see a significant leap—from 12MP to 50MP. That’s the kind of upgrade that doesn’t dominate headlines but transforms versatility. Better ultrawide performance means sharper landscapes, more reliable group shots, and less compromise when switching perspectives.

There’s still no clear information on selfie cameras, particularly the under-display unit on the inner screen, which remains one of the Fold lineup’s more experimental elements.

Under the hood, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 will almost certainly adopt the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, aligning it with the Galaxy S26 series and ensuring top-tier performance across multitasking, AI features, and gaming.

Pricing, meanwhile, is expected to hold the $2,000 starting point. In a market facing component shortages and geopolitical pressure on supply chains, simply maintaining that price could be seen as a win.
