Tecno is a company you may not have heard of, but they seem to be the new TCL when it comes to experimenting with foldable and rollable phones. The product they just unveiled is a concept, a rollable phone called Tecno Phantom Ultimate.
It can expand to the side, increasing the diagonal from 6.55 inches to 7.11 inches, in just 1.2 to 1.3 seconds. Phantom Ultimate makes use of a single drive motor system, that’s able to expand the device with a single press of a button, positioned on the top right side of the machine. When it’s rolled, we’re getting a basic 6.55 inch smartphone, with the extra screen being placed at the back, working as an Always On Display.
If you want more specs, there’s a 7.11 inch panel here, with LTPO AMOLED tech and On Cell, as well as 2296 x 1596 pixel resolution and 388 PPI. It also offers 100% DCI-P3 color gamut coverage. The whole machine measures 9.93 mm in thickness at the base. Tecno promises you can easily hold the device with a single hand.
There’s also protective glass, for the sliding area and also a textured back side for improved grip. Once again, this is just a concept, so you won’t be seeing it in stores too soon.
