It appears the iconic bright yellow design of the Lumia 1020 is making a comeback with the HMD Hyper, if the latest leaked images are anything to go by. HMD Global has been hinting at reviving this beloved aesthetic for its upcoming tablets and smartphones, and now we have tangible evidence.
Tipster @smashx_X on X (formerly Twitter) has shared details and specifications of the device. The HMD Hyper bears a resemblance to the HMD Skyline, both embracing the Lumia-inspired design language. The device is set to debut in a striking yellow shade, featuring a top-mounted punch-hole for the selfie camera and a rectangular rear camera module housing three sensors. Physical buttons are positioned on the right side.
Key specifications include a Full HD+ OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 processor. It packs a 4,700mAh battery supporting 33W fast charging. Memory-wise, the handset boasts 8GB of RAM and 256GB of internal storage, alongside a microSD slot for expansion.
The rear camera setup is led by a 50MP primary sensor with optical image stabilization, accompanied by a 13MP secondary camera and an 8MP tertiary sensor whose function remains unspecified—though it’s plausible to assume a 13MP ultrawide and an 8MP telephoto configuration. The rear cameras are capable of recording 4K videos at 30fps.
On the connectivity front, the HMD Hyper supports 5G, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, and features a USB-C port. It will run on Android 14 out of the box. There’s a strong possibility we’ll witness its official debut at IFA 2024 in early September.
