Samsung’s rumored wide-format foldable has appeared once again in a new hands-on video leak. The device, currently referred to as the Galaxy Z Fold Wide, shows off a noticeably broader design, slimmer body and tablet-like proportions ahead of its expected debut this July.
Samsung’s upcoming wide-screen foldable smartphone has surfaced in a fresh hands-on dummy video, giving us one of the clearest looks yet at what could become the company’s biggest design shift for the Galaxy Fold series in years. The leak, shared by well-known tipster Sonny Dickson, showcases a white dummy unit believed to represent the so-called Galaxy Z Fold Wide. While dummy models are not final retail devices, they are often based on manufacturing dimensions and provide a good idea of the overall design, proportions and thickness.
Compared to previous Galaxy Fold devices, the new model looks significantly wider and shorter, moving away from Samsung’s traditionally narrow outer display format. When unfolded, the device resembles a compact tablet much more naturally than older Fold generations.
Samsung foldables have frequently been criticized for their tall and narrow cover screens, which could feel awkward for typing and daily use. This wider approach appears designed to address exactly those complaints. The larger footprint could improve multitasking, gaming and video playback while reducing the black bars commonly seen on ultranarrow foldables.
Despite the broader design, the device still appears extremely thin. Earlier rumors pointed to dimensions of around 9.8 mm folded and roughly 4.3 mm unfolded, placing it close to the impressively slim Galaxy Z Fold 7 territory.
The dummy unit also reveals more refined hardware details than previous leaks. The rear section includes a pill-shaped camera module with dual sensors, likely consisting of a 50 MP primary camera and a 50 MP ultrawide shooter. The design differs from Samsung’s rumored Ultra-branded foldable, suggesting the company may be planning clearer visual separation between its foldable models this year.
Visible in the video are the power and volume buttons, USB Type-C port and the slim hinge mechanism. The device is also rumored to feature a 4,800 mAh battery and a 7.6-inch inner display with a 4:3 aspect ratio.
Interestingly, recent reports suggest the naming strategy may change entirely. The wider foldable could launch as the Galaxy Z Fold8, while the successor to the traditional Fold design may instead arrive as the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra.
