I was playing with the Motorola Moto G Pro the other day and started wondering why is it so hard to make a proper stylus phone? Samsung is the only one who got it right. LG didn’t get it with the Stylo series and the Moto G Pro feels like it has a Casio palmtop stylus. Will Sony do it? Techconfigurations created the Xperia Note Ultra, which is supposed to be a Note 20 Killer and we can check it out below.
Sony has bigger fish to fry, as the Xperia series isn’t doing well and their mobile segment is bleeding money. Experiments are definitely not the way to gain customers, unless they crack the field of affordable foldables. SO, first things first: this concept is badass. The Xperia Note Ultra packs a Penta camera and a stylus with a triangular tip. There are dual stereo speakers here and also an edge to edge screen with a very narrow earpiece at the top.
The designer didn’t get rid of the angularity of the device, which is inherent for a Sony Xperia and always has been. The huge back camera includes the following setup:
- 64 MP (wide)
- 12 MP (tele)
- 16 MP (ultrawide)
- 20 MP
- 0.3 MP (depth)
The camera module design is domed and feels like an uglier version of the S20 Ultra back camera. Some Sony trademarks are kept: the fingerprint scanner in the Power button and the physical camera button. The stylus looks like a Toblerone basically and has a huge Sony logo on it. It’s dubbed “S Pen” for some reason and comes with gesture support, its own battery, up to 2 hours of battery life, Bluetooth connectivity and remote capture support in the camera app.
The screen is a huge 6.9 inch AMOLED panel with 120 Hz and HDR10 support. There’s also 5G, a 5000 mAh battery and 65W fast charging. Snapdragon 875 is the CPU of choice and we also get half a TB of storage and 16 GB of RAM. Wireless charging is also here, fast one, plus we also get an audio jack and multiple color versions. If the designer slapped a Note 21 branding on this device, nobody would be sad, that’s all I’m going to say.
