Xiaomi 16 Renders Reveal Subtle Design Tweaks, Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 Inside

The Xiaomi 16 may still be months away from its official launch — expected to arrive in Europe in early 2026 — but the leaks are already painting a detailed picture of the upcoming flagship. Set for a September 2025 debut in China, the Xiaomi 16 is poised to be the first phone powered by Qualcomm’s next-gen Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, continuing Xiaomi’s tradition of leading with the latest chipsets.

Thanks to a new batch of CAD-based renders, we now get a clear look at the device’s design. If you were expecting a major visual overhaul from the Xiaomi 14 or 15, you might be disappointed. The Xiaomi 16 keeps its flat display and large camera module, which critics still lovingly (or not) call “the stovetop.” However, there are a few refinements. The bottom rear portion now features a gray tint, paired with a more pronounced Xiaomi logo. The display bezels are also noticeably thinner, and the phone itself appears slightly bulkier — a bold choice in a market pushing thinner flagships like the Galaxy S25 Edge and iPhone 17 Air.

The Leica partnership remains intact, with branding on the back confirming another round of Leica-enhanced optics. Expect features like floating lens tech, Leica color science, classic shutter sounds, and custom filters — all part of the now-familiar Xiaomi-Leica formula.

Under the hood, the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 promises a 25% performance uplift in CPU tasks and 30% improvement in GPU rendering, setting the stage for a power-efficient yet performance-focused experience. The display will remain flat, measuring between 6.32 and 6.36 inches, making it one of the more compact Android flagships in 2025 — albeit with some extra thickness to accommodate a massive 6,800mAh battery. That’s a serious leap from the 5,400mAh unit in the Xiaomi 15, and it’s paired with 100W wired charging for rapid top-ups.

Rounding out the package is a triple 50MP camera array, including a periscope telephoto shooter, reinforcing Xiaomi’s ambition to stay competitive in mobile photography — especially in the post-Galaxy S Ultra world.

The Xiaomi 16 may not be revolutionary on the outside, but its upgraded internals and smart refinements suggest it’s gunning for performance dominance with a compact form factor and powerhouse specs. Expect more details to surface as the Chinese launch nears.
