There’s been a lot of talk about the first foldable iPhones and the jury is still out regarding the format the Apple will adopt. iPhone Fold seems to be the favourite, although some thing the iPhone Flip is also in the cards. Among them is designer Braz de Pina, who came up with the iPhone Brutal Concept.
This feels like a very skinny and angular phone and it feels very… Japanese somehow. Minimalistic and understated, but also edgy, daring and bold. It hwas 3 back cameras and arrives in vivid colors, like red, blue or yellow. Some compare it to a floppy disk of sorts. It’s definitely a throwback to the early Apple designs, the Lisa, the Macintosh, the first iPod.
The approach is blocky, yet functional. There’s also a slight modularity of the phone and we also get to see airflow channels. iPhone Brutal opens up like a flip, dual screen phone. The back is rigid and abstract, the buttons are… flat and colorful and there are some Japanese symbols on the device.

The lenses are Carl Zeiss inspired apparently. The exposed camera lenses are also a bit curved, perhaps even more curved than expected. The designer notes that this is far from a finalized product and that it shares DNA with different designs. He is also working on a MacBook concept, which makes me curios. The last comparison I’ll make is towards a deck of cards.
