Google Pixel 9a Rendered in Detail, With Small Camera Module

Google’s Pixel 9 series just hit the shelves, but there’s already talk of what’s next: the Google Pixel 9a. Slated for a spring 2025 release, likely around Google I/O, leaks from Onleaks reveal some exciting updates for this budget-friendly device.

The Pixel 9a sports a noticeable design tweak: the camera bar. Unlike previous models, it’s almost flush with the back, with a small ring around the camera that subtly protrudes—a look similar to the LG V60 ThinQ. It retains the dual-lens setup, featuring wide and ultrawide cameras, just like the Pixel 9. However, one thing that stands out are the larger bezels. Expected for a phone priced under $500, but still, they’re hard to miss.

Here’s where the Pixel 9a sets itself apart: it’ll be the first in the Pixel 9 family to launch with Android 15 pre-installed. The rest of the series is still awaiting Android 15’s rollout, expected on October 15. And just like its predecessors, the Pixel 9a will benefit from seven years of software support, guaranteeing longevity for those looking for an affordable yet future-proof device.

Under the hood, the Pixel 9a will ditch the Tensor G3, moving up to the newer Tensor G4 chip, the same powerhouse found in the more expensive Pixel 9 models. While the phone will likely feature a downgraded modem to keep costs low, the inclusion of Tensor G4 ensures solid performance. Interestingly, this could be the last Pixel device to use a Samsung-designed processor, with the Pixel 10 expected to introduce a fully Google-customized chip made by TSMC.

While much of the Pixel 9a’s hardware will be similar to its predecessor, the Pixel 8a, there are still some welcome improvements. Expect a 6.1-inch display, 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage. The battery is rumored to be slightly larger than the 8a’s 4492mAh, giving it a bit more juice for everyday use.

While the Pixel 9a won’t have all the bells and whistles of the higher-end models, it looks to be a solid contender for 2025’s budget smartphone of choice. With Android 15 from day one, seven years of updates, and the Tensor G4 chip, this affordable Pixel might just be the go-to option for those looking for performance and longevity without breaking the bank.

We’ll have to wait for more details, but all signs point to the Pixel 9a being a serious competitor in the budget smartphone space when it launches next spring.
