Lenovo’s Budget-Friendly Legion Go S: First Look at the New Portable Console

Lenovo is doubling down on the portable gaming console market. After testing the waters with the Windows-powered Legion Go, the company seems to be building an entire lineup of devices in this space. Rumors about a budget-friendly model called the Legion Go S have been swirling for a while now, and we finally have our first images of the device. If the leaks are accurate, we can expect an official announcement at CES 2025 this January.

According to Windows Central, the Legion Go S ditches the detachable controllers seen on its predecessor. Instead, it opts for a compact, all-in-one form factor. The button layout follows a familiar design language, reminiscent of the ROG Ally, with Xbox-style analog sticks and an 8-axis circular D-pad. Around the back, you’ll find two programmable buttons and what appear to be trigger locks. Up top, there are dual USB-C ports for connectivity.

One standout feature is a small touch-sensitive area on the front, replacing the square touchpad from the original Legion Go. This streamlined design reinforces the device’s budget-conscious positioning.

As a more affordable alternative, the Legion Go S will reportedly feature less powerful hardware than the original Legion Go. It’s expected to use AMD’s Ryzen Z2 chip, likely built on the Zen 3+ architecture, rather than the newer Zen 4 or Zen 5 cores. For high-performance gaming, the “Extreme” variant of the Z2 chip will probably be reserved for a full-fledged successor to the Legion Go.

Price-wise, the Legion Go S is expected to land in the $400–$500 range, a significant drop from the original Legion Go’s $700 launch price. If true, this makes the Legion Go S a strong contender in the portable console space for budget-conscious gamers.
