One thing we didn’t quite like about the OnePlus 7 series was its lack of resilience. As shown by JerryRigEverything, the phones were prone to breakage, especially on account of that “Oreo” camera. Now things should change with the OnePlus 8 series and designer Techconfigurations has some ideas in that field.
First of all, what you’re seeing here is the OnePlus 8 Pro 5G, which means it’s the highest end smartphone from the first of the year, that OnePlus has to offer. Well, give or take a McLaren Edition… It’s obviously a 5G phone, as the name states and it comes with a vertical stripe for the back camera, so goodbye Oreo. Also goodbye pop up cameras, as the front camera is now integrated into the screen. At the back we find 4 shooters: a 48 MP main camera, 8 MP telephoto cam, 16 MP ultra wide and a ToF 3D sensor.
Optical zoom stays at 3X for now, which is a pity. The handset appears to be quite slim and quite metallic looking. It’s also glossy, unlike the current trend of making “Frosted”/matte phones. I’d say it continues in the same lines as some of the predecessors and doesn’t innovate in a huge fashion. At least the back camera doesn’t protrude a lot. There’s a 6.65 inch Fluid AMOLED 120 Hz screen upfront with minimal bezels and a Snapdragon 865 CPU inside.
We also get wireless and reverse wireless charging support and there’s even a price tag in the video: $750. Color choices include red, green, blue, purple and brown. I think that we need more innovation… The Xiaomi Mi 10 Pro already sounds better on paper.
