We’ve focused a bit too much on smartphone renders lately and less on other devices. We used to cover gaming consoles and even tablets or cars, if they were cool enough. Considering a full glass Apple iMac Pro has leaked, we felt the need to tackle it, especially since it also got rendered by Letsgodigital.org
Apple recently had a patent come up that showed a futuristic iMac. It was an all in one desktop computer fully made of glass. The glass housing includes a large touchscreen and a removable keyboard. The patent was submitted by Apple to the USPTO in May 2019 and the documents came up on January 23rd 2020. Talented designer Jermaine Smit and Letsgodigital have created a full 3D render of the machine, inspired by the patent. It’s got a smooth, stylish glass design, that’s totally going to catch the eye.
Weirdly enough, even if you’re working with glass, the case can bend, on account of having a curved base. The middle part can bend and be adjusted at the ideal angles for working, editing, watching content. There’s also a stand for extra strength and a few options for using a keyboard. You could integrate a separate keyboard into the design, with a trackpad to the left and right of it, plus there’s even room for a MacBook integration.
You can slide in the laptop from the rear. The only problem with this design is how close the keyboard is to the screen, so maybe it should be integrated separately. Curved glass has been a staple in Apple designs, including the new Campus and UFO building. Bending glass sounds like a risky move, since you can’t quite do that when the glass is cool. However, Samsung is on to something, as they have a glass protection on the Galaxy Z Flip that bends.
In Apple’s case it’s not a screen, but rather a glass housing, which may involve other materials to allow the bend. One can only wonder how expensive such an iMac would be. Probably thousands upon thousands of dollars.
