Exclusive First Look: Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 — Thinner, Bigger, and Smarter Than Ever

The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 is on its way, and thanks to OnLeaks, we’ve got our hands on the first set of CAD renders — revealing some of the biggest changes to the Fold lineup yet. The next iteration of Samsung’s book-style foldable is expected to make its debut in July 2025, and it’s clear the company is doubling down on design refinements, larger displays, and powerful internals.

Thinner Than Ever — But Is It Enough?

Samsung is slimming things down this year. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is expected to measure just 4.5mm when unfolded and 9.5mm when folded (including the camera bump). Without it? You’re looking at an even sleeker 9mm. That’s a notable trim from the Z Fold 6’s 5.6mm profile and the Z Fold 6 SE’s 4.9mm.

But here’s the catch — it’s still not the thinnest book-style foldable on the market. The OPPO Find N5 holds that crown at 4.2mm, with the HONOR Magic V3 trailing at 4.4mm. Still, Samsung’s made strides, and with thinner bezels and more refined materials, this Fold feels closer than ever to mainstream sleekness.

Bigger Displays, Better Ratios

One of the biggest complaints with earlier Folds? That awkwardly narrow outer display. Samsung’s heard the feedback. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 sports a 6.5-inch outer display — wider and more usable — paired with an expansive 8.2-inch inner display, now the largest on any book-style foldable. For context, the OPPO Find N5 previously led the pack with an 8.12-inch screen.

With dimensions of 158.4 x 143.1 x 4.5mm, the wider front display should finally feel more like a proper smartphone when closed — a long-requested tweak since the OG Galaxy Fold in 2019.

Snapdragon Powerhouse — But Battery Stays Stagnant

Under the hood, Samsung’s sticking with its custom-tuned Qualcomm silicon. The Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy — the same chip inside the Galaxy S25 series — will power the Fold 7. It’s a performance beast, but there are whispers Samsung might opt for the 7-core variant (seen in the Find N5) to improve thermals.

While there’s chatter about some markets seeing an Exynos 2500 variant, it seems unlikely given Samsung’s deep collaboration with Qualcomm on this custom silicon.

Unfortunately, battery capacity remains unchanged. The 4,400mAh cell returns for another round — a spec that’s starting to feel stale. However, considering the battery optimization gains seen in the S25 series, there’s hope the Fold 7 could squeeze out more screen time than its predecessors.

Camera Upgrades Where It Counts

The camera setup is getting some love this year. The headline? A 200-megapixel primary sensor — a huge leap from last year and the same one that debuted in the Z Fold 6 SE in Korea. Alongside it, expect a 12MP ultrawide and a 10MP telephoto.

Selfie fans aren’t left out either. The outer display houses a 10MP front camera, while the inner foldable screen sticks with a 4MP under-display camera — subtle, but serviceable for video calls and casual snaps.

When Can You Get It?

Samsung has a habit of nudging its Unpacked events earlier each year, but with the Galaxy S25 series launching a bit later than usual, the Fold 7 might follow suit. Right now, all signs point to a mid-July 2025 launch — but don’t be surprised if Samsung shifts things around by a week or two.

The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is shaping up to be Samsung’s most refined foldable yet — thinner, bigger, and packing serious camera power. But with battery specs that feel a bit too familiar and ever-tightening competition from OPPO and HONOR, will it be enough to keep Samsung on top of the foldables game? We’ll find out this summer.
