Samsung is shaking things up with the upcoming Galaxy A36 (and likely the A56), as seen in new 3D renders shared by Giznext and OnLeaks. The A36 is set to feature a refreshed design that marks a departure from Samsung’s current aesthetic, particularly on the back.
The most notable change? A return to the “camera island” setup, where the three rear lenses are grouped together in a vertical formation—similar to the Galaxy A30s from a few years ago. This is a shift away from the individual, separated lenses seen on recent A-series models.
Despite the design update, Samsung is holding onto some familiar elements, like the “Key Island”—the slight bump where the power and volume buttons are placed. The Galaxy A36 will also be slightly narrower than the A35, coming in at 77.9mm wide (or 78.4mm if you factor in the Key Island), compared to the A35’s 78.0mm. Height-wise, it’s a bit taller at 162.6mm versus 161.7mm.
One big improvement? The A36 is slimming down. The phone will be thinner than its predecessor, measuring just “7.4mm thick” (down from 8.2mm). Even with the camera bump, the total thickness hits 9.6mm. The screen is also seeing a slight size boost, expanding from 6.60” to “6.64””. There’s no word yet on battery capacity, but Samsung has a history of keeping battery life consistent even with slimmer designs.
Interestingly, the A36 recently appeared on Geekbench running “Android 15”, though the exact chipset remains unclear. It’s rumored to feature either the “Snapdragon 6 Gen 3” or “7s Gen 2”, indicating another switch in Samsung’s chip supplier for the A3x series. Previous models in the lineup have used the Dimensity 1080 and Exynos 1380, so this could be a performance leap.
On the front, the A36 sticks with the familiar look—”a flat panel display with a centered punch-hole selfie camera” and slightly uneven bezels. There’s no sign of a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, so expect it to remain “under the display”, continuing Samsung’s trend with recent A-series models.
Leaks have also surfaced for the “Galaxy A56”, which is tipped to feature Samsung’s new “Exynos 1580” chipset with “AMD RDNA graphics”. However, don’t expect these devices to launch anytime soon—the A35 and A55 dropped in mid-March, so it might be a few more months before the A36 and A56 are officially revealed.
The A36 is shaping up to be a refined update with a sleeker body, updated camera design, and potential hardware upgrades. Stay tuned for more leaks as we inch closer to its release.
