PlayStation 5 Concept Renders Are Possibly Better Than the Dev Kit

So, PlayStation 5 has been leaking all over the place and if recent rumors are to be believed, it should debut in early February. The dev kit designs have been less than convincing or impressive, but luckily I know a few designers that have made pretty compelling concepts of the PS5.

The renders were created by Wardson, aka Omer Furkan Pala, who envisions a more angular and slim approach compared to other concepts. The PS5 has 5 fan air exits at the top side, in order to reduce heat and bring cool air inside. It’s got a slim design with a base body and the console “head” on top of it. It feels a bit flatter than I expected and maybe the PS5 Slim will look like this. Seeing how much innovation Sony has to put into it, there’s no way it could be this slim.

There’s the SSD, the Zen 2 CPU, Navi GPU, one hell of a power source, coolers and more. Interestingly, the designer also made a list of the connectors:

  • 2 USB 3.1
  • 2 USB Type-C (one for screen connection if needed)
  • 1 display port
  • 1 HDMI
  • 1 disc slot
  • 1 headphone jack

There are also front panels with a LED screen indicating the controller battery life, connected Bluetooth, the time, the currently opened app. It’s very much like an external notification screen on a phone. I’d add one more layer to this device and adopt a “wedding cake” design, but that’s just me. What do you think?
