Just hours after hearing that HONOR is preparing a triple-foldable phone similar to Huawei’s, we now learn that Xiaomi is headed in the same direction. A newly surfaced patent shows the Chinese tech giant is developing its own tri-fold smartphone. The device offers three usage modes: a standard phone format with a 6.5-inch display, a larger foldable mode approaching 8 inches, and a tablet mode stretching to around 10 inches.
Huawei’s standout innovation was its dual-hinge design, which allows seamless folding between these formats. According to 91Mobiles, Xiaomi’s patent—filed with the China National Intellectual Property Administration (CNIPA) and dated September 3, 2024—shows a similar approach. The rear camera layout, featuring a horizontal rectangular bar, resembles Xiaomi’s Mix series.
While HONOR aims for a sub-10mm thickness in its triple-foldable, Xiaomi might follow suit, likely attempting to beat the 12.8mm thickness of Huawei’s Mate XT Ultimate. The bigger concern, however, seems to be the weight, expected to reach nearly 300 grams. It remains to be seen just how durable those dual hinges will be under daily use.
We also have fresh news, saying that the new tri fold phone is known under the codename Zhuque and it will be launching in 2026.
