3 things to consider when buying a refurbished iPhone

When purchasing a refurbished iPhone, there are several key points to consider that might not be completely obvious. For this reason, we have teamed up with refurbished technology provider WeSellTek to share some of the key things to look out for when not only purchasing refurbished iPhones but refurbished technology as well.

The Grading of refurbished technology

A key aspect of a refurbished device is the quality in terms of condition. An iPhone that is older but in far better condition could be valued higher than a phone in the opposite state. For this reason, it’s key to have a full and proper assessment of the phone to establish the value at point of resale.

Our devices are split in to 4 grading conditions – Pristine, Excellent, Good and Fair: Refurbished – Grade A (Pristine Condition)

Devices that have been graded as Pristine (Grade A) will show, at worse, very light signs of wear on the housing and screen, this can be very faint scratches which can only be seen by looking very closely at the device. Our grade A handsets are cleaned and pass an extensive testing process.

Refurbished – Grade B (Excellent Condition)

Devices that have been graded as Excellent (Grade B) will show light signs of wear which can include light scratches and scuffs on the housing and screen and are generally not visible during normal use. Our grade B handsets are cleaned and pass an extensive testing process.

Refurbished – Grade C (Good Condition)

Devices that have been graded as Good (Grade C) will show light to medium signs of wear which can be noticeable scratches and dents on the housing and noticeable scratches on the screen. Our grade C handsets are cleaned and pass an extensive testing process.

Refurbished – Grade D (Fair Condition)

Devices that have been graded as fair (Grade D) will show heavy signs of wear which can be deep scratches and or chips on the housing and screen, we recommend purchasing a protective case for Grade D handsets which will hide most of the damage. Our grade D handsets are cleaned and pass an extensive testing process.

Consumer Rights for refurbished tech

Purchasing your refurbished device from a reputable dealer will ensure that your consumer rights are protected with no effort on your part.

If you’re buying from an official trader, you’ll have the same rights as though you were buying your iPhone from a shop. The product you’ve purchased will need to be of satisfactory quality and fit the description it was advertised as. If for example, there was a fault with the iPhone that had not been disclosed, you are within your rights to a refund.

You also have the right to cancel your purchase within 14 days and a further 14 days to return the item if you’re not happy with it. This is thanks to the Consumer Contracts Regulations. It’s important to note this won’t apply if you bought the item from an independent seller or you’ve purchased from eBay in a bidding-style auction.

Warranty information for refurbished technology

One of the most important things to look out for when buying a refurbished iPhone is the warranty that comes with it.

This will provide you with protection and security if anything were to go wrong with the phone. Most reliable retailers will offer this with your refurbished iPhones.

The length of that warranty will however vary from retailer to retailer. It’s important to check this before you buy the iPhone. It’s also important to note that the length of the warranty could also vary depending on the grade of refurbishment you go for.

Your warranty will come from either the retailer (if they did the refurbishment) or the manufacturer.
