We’re about a month away from Apple’s much-anticipated event, where the iPhone 16 series is expected to be unveiled. Yet, in an unexpected twist, details about the iPhone 17 have already started leaking. It seems that at least 3-4 months of development have already gone by, and today, we’re hearing about a potential rebranding. The iPhone 17 Slim is reportedly being renamed to “iPhone 17 Air.”
This information comes from a credible source, Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, who disclosed that Apple is planning to launch an ultra-thin iPhone 17 model under the “Air” branding. Positioned between the standard iPhone 17 and the iPhone 17 Pro in terms of features, this model aims to appeal to younger consumers, particularly those who previously purchased the iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 13 Mini, as well as the iPhone 14 Plus, 15 Plus, and 16 Plus.
Gurman also speculated that Apple intends to integrate the high-end capabilities and performance of the Pro models into more compact devices. However, this ambitious move might not come to fruition until 2027. Additionally, Gurman hinted at an iPhone Ultra, specifically an iPhone 17 Ultra, which would also adopt the ultra-thin design.
Meanwhile, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has provided further insights into the iPhone 17 Slim. According to Kuo, the device could feature a 6.6-inch display with a resolution of approximately 2740 x 1260 pixels. Bloomberg’s source also touched on the upcoming iPhone SE 4, which is expected to resemble the iPhone 14 in appearance but will surprise with new Apple Intelligence features.
As these rumors swirl, one question lingers: Just how thin will the iPhone Slim/Air be, and will it be durable enough to pass JerryRigEverything’s notorious durability tests?
