IFA 2024: Tecno Unveils Phantom Ultimate 2, a Pioneering Tri-Fold Concept Phone

At IFA 2024, Tecno has unveiled the Phantom Ultimate 2, a concept phone that redefines foldable technology with its innovative tri-fold design. This debut follows the brand’s earlier introduction of the first-generation Phantom Ultimate at MWC 2024, which featured a rollable display capable of expanding from 6.55 inches to 7.11 inches in just over a second. Now, Tecno is pushing the boundaries even further.

The Phantom Ultimate 2 triple folding phone impresses with its ultra-slim design, measuring just 11mm when folded—making it slimmer than the Galaxy Z Fold 6, which measures 12.1mm in thickness. This is made possible by a newly engineered hinge system and a remarkably thin battery cover, just 0.25mm thick, crafted from highly compressed Titan Advanced Fiber, showcasing a blend of strength and elegance.

When folded, the Phantom Ultimate 2 features a compact 6.48-inch display. However, when fully unfolded, it transforms into a sprawling 10-inch 3K OLED screen with a 4:3 aspect ratio, delivering an immersive viewing experience. The device supports several folding configurations, including a laptop-like setup, a media consumption mode, and a tent mode, perfect for multitasking scenarios like dual-screen real-time translation. The hinges have been rigorously tested, ensuring durability for up to 300,000 folds.

Tecno has also refined the software on the Phantom Ultimate 2, optimizing it for seamless multitasking across three vertical windows and offering dynamic wallpapers that adapt to different folding states. The phone is equipped with a triple camera array on the back, enhancing its versatility for photography. The fully expanded screen showcases the phone’s ambitious design and technological prowess.

Concept phones like the Phantom Ultimate 2 serve as a glimpse into the future of mobile technology, featuring cutting-edge designs and technologies that are not yet ready for mass production. While they highlight the potential advancements in the industry, these devices are often not intended for commercial release, meaning they might not make it to store shelves anytime soon.
