Pixel Duo is a Dual-Screen Phone Concept With an E-Ink Display

Dual-screen phones haven’t really been explored to their full potential in recent years. Xiaomi briefly toyed with the idea on devices like the Mi 11 Ultra and, more recently, the Xiaomi 17 Pro Max. But today we’re looking at a concept that takes the idea in a more practical direction: the Pixel Duo, a device that pairs a compact LCD panel with a power-efficient E-Ink screen.

The Pixel Duo imagines a handset with two distinct displays on the front. The primary panel sits at the top: an oval-shaped 3.5-inch LCD roughly comparable to what you’d find on a modern Flip-style foldable cover screen. It uses a 1280 x 800 resolution and supports a smooth 120 Hz refresh rate.

Below it is the real standout: a 5.2-inch E-Ink display with a resolution of 1300 x 838 pixels. Like any E-Ink panel, it consumes very little power and shows only black-and-white (plus grayscale) content, making it ideal for reading without eye strain. The trade-off is the naturally low refresh rate.

There’s no information about the chipset, internal hardware, or even rear cameras. And despite the “Pixel” branding, there’s no clear link to Google here; the rounded design language is about the only resemblance.

Interestingly, the concept might make even more sense as a dual-screen case rather than a standalone phone. But as a design exercise, Pixel Duo offers a fresh look at how low-power displays could complement everyday smartphone use.
